How Do We Bargain The Love Back?
After analyzing surveys turned in by over 72% of our membership, this
comment overwhelmingly captures the spirit of the Everett Education
Association membership:
1. What is the one major issue that must be addressed in this year’s negotiations?
Can we bargain joy back into teaching? I still like the job and the kids, but I’ve
never felt like there are so many things coming at us from every direction.
There’s never a moment to savor the amazing things we do opening kids’ eyes to
the world and what they can do in it.
Ok, that doesn’t help. One issue? 1) Besides salary + benefits? 2) Time to
collaborate with colleagues.
2. What should be the overall goal of this year’s negotiations?
Maintain our ability to make professional decisions. I don’t mean close the door
and do whatever we want, but not be robots.
Much of what we know was confirmed by the results of this
survey:

Bargaining Support Team Prepares for Negotiations
On February 4, members of your Bargaining Support Team met at Brooklyn Brothers
Pizza to prepare to support the Bargaining Team. This team will assist Building Reps
distributing bargaining materials, act as a sensing mechanism for the membership,
and determine any action needed to support a successful bargain to achieve a

Upcoming Survey
The Bargaining Team has been impressed with your response in providing input, but
there is still a need to understand your priorities and positions on some issues. In
the first weeks of March, another short survey will be distributed. Please make sure
you take the time to complete the survey. A more informed Bargaining Team will
result in a stronger contract. Thank you.
