My instrument this year will be the FLUTE in the 5th
Grade Band. I will need the following supplies and
accessories in order to maintain care of my instrument
as well as to learn in class with the other band students:
1. A flute in its case in good working condition
2. Standard of Excellence - Method Book 1 (red book) for flute
3. One metal, wood, or plastic flute cleaning rod
4. A scrap piece of material from a t-shirt or towel approximately 3”x10”
5. A 3-Ring Binder (½ to 1 inch thick)
6. 2 or 3 pencils labeled with student name on each pencil (near the eraser)
either with a small label taped on or written on with a permanent marker
A folding music stand is optional, but highly recommended so that you will be
able to practice with good air support (you will sound better)!

ask friends about their rental experience and which stores they might
recommend.

3. A cleaning/care kit (including a swab, mouthpiece brush, cork grease, a
reed guard/reed saver)
4. A box of #2 reeds (at least 10 reeds)
5. A 3-Ring Binder (½ to 1 inch thick)
6. 2 or 3 pencils labeled with student name on each pencil (near the eraser)
either with a small label taped on or written on with a permanent marker
A cushioned thumb rest is highly recommended to make playing the clarinet
more enjoyable.
A folding music stand is optional, but highly recommended so that you will be
able to practice with good air support (you will sound better)!

1. An alto saxophone in its case in good working condition

saxophone
3. A cleaning/care kit (including a swab, mouthpiece brush, cork grease, a

A neckstrap is required in playing the saxophone. Often, a thin neckstrap comes in
the instrument case. A padded neckstrap is highly recommended to make playing
the saxophone more enjoyable on the neck.
A pulley-cart is optional, but highly suggested if your child walks to school on a
regular basis. They can be found at discount department stores.
A folding music stand is optional, but highly recommended so that you will be able to
practice with good air support (you will sound better)!

brush, valve casing brush, tuning slide grease, valve oil)
4. A 3-Ring Binder (½ to 1 inch thick)
5. 2 or 3 pencils labeled with student name on each pencil (near the eraser)
either with a small label taped on or written on with a permanent marker
Valve oil is required in playing and maintaining the trumpet/cornet. Any brand
of valve oil is fine to use, but Yamaha instruments should only use Yamaha
brand oil.

*Yamaha brand instruments should only use Yamaha brand slide oil & tuning

5th Grade Band. I will need the following supplies and
accessories in order to maintain care of my instrument
as well as to learn in class with the other band students:
1. A bell kit in good working condition including a small metal bell set, a drum
pad, a pair of Vic Firth General, 5A or 5B snare sticks, and a stand that
holds both the bells and drum pad (one at a time on the same stand).
This usually comes in a back-pack style soft bag.
2. Standard of Excellence - Method Book 1 (red book) for Drums & Mallets
3. One pair of Mike Balter 10A mallets (or similar with a solid handle)
4. A 3-Ring Binder (1 inch thick)
5. 2 or 3 pencils labeled with student name on each pencil (near the eraser)
either with a small label taped on or written on with a permanent marker
