PART 1: Create an Abrasion

Red Vaseline
Cocoa Powder
PART 1: Create an Abrasion
Tissue
Tongue Depressor
Tear off a piece of tissue to represent the size and shape of your wound
Place tissue onto the inside part of your lower arm
Using tongue depressor, spread Vaseline over the entire area; overlapping slightly onto the skin
Sprinkle a small amount of cocoa powder on top of the Vaseline and pat down gently
Allow Vaseline to absorb for a minute or so

You will now treat your partner’s “wound” using the Universal Precautions taught in class
1. Put on your gloves
2. Place gauze pad over wound to simulate an “Occlusive” bandage
3. Wrap pre-wrap around the wound and then apply strips of tape over the pre-wrap

Now follow “Universal Precautions” for cleaning up after wound care
1. With gloved hands, remove the bandaging from your partners arm and dispose of “soiled materials”
in the RED BIOHAZARD BAG
2. Use the Clorox wipes to thoroughly clean the top of your table; throw wipe away in RED BIOHAZARD

3. Using the technique from class, properly remove your soiled gloves and dispose of them in the RED
BIOHAZARD BAG
4. Use the Antibiotic Gel to simulate washing your hands after exposure
Now follow “Universal Precautions” for cleaning up after wound care
