Course Content

Course Materials

You will need to bring the following materials with you each day to class:

Textbook: “Elementary Statistics, Picturing the World”, 4 th

Pencil

Notebook

ed, Ron Larson & Betsy Farber

TI-83 Calculators will be issued to you. At the end of the year, the calculator that was issued to you must be turned in. Serial numbers will be checked. If you do not turn in your calculator, you will be fined

$97.00.

Course Content

In this course, the following topics will be covered (chapters 1 - 7)

Graphical presentation of data

Describe & analyze single-variable data: central tendency, dispersion, position

Describe & analyze bivariate data: linear correlation, regression

Probability & probability distributions: binomial, normal

Inferential statistics: hypothesis testing, chi-square

Random sampling and analysis

Grading Policy: Percentage grades will be calculated by dividing total earned points by total possible points.

You will be evaluated on any or all of the following: tests, quizzes, homework, in class assignments, participation, projects.

Grading Scale: 93% - 100% A 77% - 79% C+

90% - 92% A-

87% - 89% B+

83% - 86% B

80% - 82% B-

73% - 76% C

70% - 72% C-

60% - 69% D below 60% F

Classroom Expectations:

Be prepared and responsible.

Be in your assigned seat ready to work when the bell rings.

You must show all your work on homework and assessments in order to receive full credit.

When you return from an absence, you are responsible for any missed homework. You have two days to make up an assignment.

If you miss a test or quiz, it is your responsibility to make arrangements to take it. Tests/quizzes must be completed within one week of returning from an absence.

If you miss class due to a school assignment, sporting event, etc, your assignment is still due by the due date and the test/quiz must be taken on time. It is your responsibility to ask what you will miss when you will miss for a school activity/event.

Late homework assignments for a given chapter will NOT be accepted after the Chapter test.
