Battle of the Bands
GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES
** The winning entries will be determined solely on the following criteria. **
1. The members of the board of judges for the contests shall be selected by the
DOUS Faculty.
2. The panel of judges will be composed of three (3) members for the Search for Mr
and Ms OUS 2014, three (3) members for Ms FHHM, (3) members for Music and
Dance Events and three (3) members for the Essay Writing and (3) Poster Making
contest who will rate the participants according to specific criteria.
3. No contestant, coach or coordinator shall, in any manner, question the ratings of
the board of judges. Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
4. Each participant must be officially enrolled in the course or department which
he/she will be representing.
5. Each department/program must have a representative in each category.
6. A participant who previously won the major prizes (1 st, 2nd, 3rd) under the same
category is not qualified to join in the said category. However, a participant is
qualified to join in another category of the said competition.
7. The list of entries for each category must be submitted to the SBO Office and
Cultural Unit on or before October 11, 2014.
8. In case of tie, the rank point system shall be employed to determine the winner.
9. To determine the overall champion, the point system shall be employed.
**Search for Mr and Miss OUS 2014 and Ms FHHM 2014**
Specific Rules:
1. All candidates whether single or married could join the pageant.
2. In case the winner is enrolled on the MA/PhD, CT/DT, the candidate is not
qualified to join for the Mr and Miss DMMMSU 2014 because of different guidelines
in the university level. The next Runner Up winner will then be qualified to
compete for the title.
3. Candidates must be at the assigned dressing rooms 2 hours before the pageant.
4. Only 2 representatives/personal assistants are allowed to enter the dressing
room.
5. Time allotted for the Talent portion is 1 minute 30 seconds. One (1) dance
partner is only allowed for the talent competition.
6. Candidates for both Mr and Ms DOUS and Ms FHHM will have their pictorial for Mr
and Ms Photogenic on October 11, 2014, 1:00 PM
7. Winners for Mr and Miss Photogenic will be chosen by the studio sponsor.
8. Mr and Miss Friendship will be chosen among the candidates.
9. Rules for the Texter’s Choice Award will be posted on the bulletin boards on
October 11, 2014.
10. Questions will be given by the panel of judges.
11. Candidates are expected to participate to all scheduled rehearsals under the
Cultural Unit. Schedules will be posted soon.

**MUSIC EVENTS **
Specific Rules:
1. For vocal solo, the piece shall be an OPM song.
2. English song piece shall be used for Vocal Duet.
3. Rendition must be limited to 5 minutes only.
4. CD’s must be submitted to the committee a day before the contest.

**DANCE EVENT – Group Dance (Class Presentation)**
Specific Rules:
1. The dance should not be less than three (3) minutes and not more than six (6)
minutes including entrance and exit.
2. A group shall compose of 8-15 dancers only.
3. Remix music is allowed.
4. Props and other paraphernalia is allowed during the contest.

**LITERARY EVENTS**
**Poster Making**
Specific Rules:
1. Each program shall not have not more than 2 representatives in this category.
2. Piece shall revolve around the theme of this year’s foundation day celebration.
3. Each contestant will be provided with cartolina.
4. Participants shall provide his/her own drawing materials.
5. Time allotted to finish this category is two (2) hours.
6. Nobody is allowed to get near the area of the contest. (Room 102)

5. Nobody is allowed to get near the area of the contest. (Room 130)

**BATTLE OF THE BANDS**
Specific Rules:
1. This event is invitational to all interested amateur bands/college students.
2. There is a registration fee of P300.00
3. First 6 invited group band will perform and participate on this event.
4. Each band shall have a maximum of 6 members.
5. Participants must bring school IDs during the competition.
6. Names of the members must be submitted to the DOUS SBO/Cultural Office on or
before October 11, 2014.
7. Each band must bring their own instruments (except for the drum set) during the
contest proper.
8. All participants must wear decent attire.
9. Two (2) cover songs and one (1) original composition will be played during the
contest
10. Each band is given 20 minutes to perform including their preparation of the
instruments.
(per minute overtime is 1 point deduction from their score)
11. All band participants must be at DOUS 1 hour before the contest proper for draw
lots.
