Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture
(Foundation House) warmly invite you to participate
in a day focussed on working with refugees and asylum
seekers toward positive mental health outcomes.

Each participant will receive a pack of resources for their work with refugees and asylum seekers
40 Category One RACGP CPD points apply for GPs. The Forum is also accredited as a MH CPD
This training has been endorsed by APEC No. 060823317 as authorised by the RCNA according to approved criteria.
This educational forum will be relevant for GPs who work with refugees, together with practice staff, nurses and
other doctors. There will be presentations and workshops including the latest updates on refugee mental health
issues in Victoria, and plenty of opportunity for interactive discussion about working with refugees in GP practice.
Learning objectives
 Increase skills in applying cultural formulations in understanding and managing mental health problems
in refugees and asylum seekers
 Raise preparedness to respond to current issues that impact on the mental health and emotional well
being of refugees and asylum seekers
 Increase strategies toward effective management of and advocacy for mental health and wellbeing of
refugee patients and asylum seekers
 Develop strategies for personal safety and psychological wellbeing for oneself, workmates and patients
that can be translated into a team approach in the general practice or workplace setting
