Day 1
Arrival at Bari Palese airport and
transfer to 5* facility with hb
arrangement on beautiful coast
between Mattinata and Vieste. The
hotel is located a few meters from
the sea of Gargano in one of the most
exclusive bays in Italy, known for its
impressive Faraglioni. The lift of the
hotel, gained in the rock, gives direct
access to the enchanting bay, nestled
in the high cliffs and reserved for the
guests of the hotel.
Meeting with the guide and welcome
dinner in hotel.
From Vergone del Lupo a trekking
itinerary starts to Montesacro, for
13,2 km through varied natural
environments, very characteristic for
the natural landscape. A part of the
route runs along the old cattle track
used by the Pilgrims Micaelici of
Vieste who every year, make the
pilgrimage to the cave of the
Archangel Michael, walking at night.
Monte Sacro is known for the ruins
of the Benedictine Abbey "SS. Trinity
"dating back to the eleventh century.
The impressive ruins of the Abbey
extend over an area of about 6,500
square meters, hidden by dense
vegetation.
After 6 hours walking through these
beautiful sites, it’s time for a good
lunch in a typical Agriturismo in
Montesacro, tasting typical products
of the region.
Transfer to the hotel. The evening is
for own use.
Day 3
Day 2
Breakfast and departure to Vergone
del Lupo, a locality in the Southern
part of Foresta Umbra, in the
National Park of Gargano.
Breakfast and departure to Baia dei
Campi, for an itinerary of 13,2 km
along the beautiful bays of the coast.
The beautiful embroidery of the
rocks that line the beautiful coast of
Gargano give life to beautiful bays.
The high cliffs covered with lush
vegetation surrounding the golden
beaches shower them with
Mediterranean flavors. The vast pine
forests in Aleppo pine and Macchia
Mediterranea colonize the whole
area giving it a beautiful color effect
both during the spring, with
beautiful blooms of Lentisco and
Fillirea, and during the autumn, with
the flowering of the Erica and the
colors of Mastic and Fillirea berries.
The beach of “Baia di Campi" has a
picturesque form and is protected by
the "Rock of Fields." It's all
surrounded by pine forests and
farmlands with Olives trees, even
secular. This bay is nestled between
"The Architiello" (characteristic
symbol of the coast of Vieste) and
high cliff topped by a watchtower.
Wonderful is also the beach of
"Portogreco", all covered with
limestone pebbles and enclosed by
two splendid promontories.
After the itinerary, we will go to eat
fresh seafood at a restaurant in
Vieste, one of the most characteristic
cities of Gargano and after lunch, we
will go in the citycentre for a visit of
the historical centre of Vieste.
Transfer to the hotel. The evening is
for own use.
Day 4
Breakfast and transfer to the magical
reserve of Sfilzi, in the Foresta
Umbra, for a tour 9 km long, for a
total of 4 hours.
This route runs entirely in the
Foresta Umbra departing from
Caritate, an ancient hunting lodge,
now abandoned. You will walk on the
path that hugs the integral reserve of
natural Sfilzi, characterized by
forests that gives way to a majestic
beech wood at higher altitudes. At
half of the itinerary a narrow trail
will lead us to the source of Sfilzi, the
only one permanent source of
Gargano, characteristic for its special
construction (1796?) and attributed
to the powerful Benedictine Abbey of
Tremiti, and the presence of Triton
Italic (Triturus italicus).
We will continue to the former
barracks Sfilzi, used as a hostel and
small restaurant, where we will have
a delicious lunch.
Transfer to the hotel. The evening is
for own use.
The coast between Vieste and
Peschici is characterized by the
presence of the trebuchets, powerful
fishing machines reached the sea.
According to some local historians it
is thought that the origin of this
important fishing system dates back
to the time of the Phoenicians and is
still in use in our country.
We will lunch in a beautiful
restaurant in front of the sea, eat
fresh seafood and enjoy a wonderful
landscape from a real “trabucco”.
Transfer to the hotel. The evening is
for own use.
Day 5
Breakfast and transfer to the superb
coast between Vieste and Peschici.
This tour will take 4 hours and will
be 9,5 km long.
The proposal of this trekking
itinerary aims to valorise some
typical elements of fascinating
Gargano coast: the watchtowers, the
rocky cliffs, the sea caves and the
bays, the rich vegetation of
Mediterranean.
By decision of the Viceroy of Naples,
Don Pietro di Toledo, along the coast
of Southern Italy was built a series of
small forts and watchtowers to
defend the territory,. The presence of
such a system became especially
useful to prevent and fight the Turks.
Day 6
Breakfast and transfer to Monte
Sant’Angelo, to start a tour of 9,5 km
to discover the natural area
surrounding the magical Unesco
World Heritage site, in a total of 6
hours.
Along the slopes of Monte
Sant'Angelo down to the Adriatic sea,
runs one of the oldest existing
bridleways, traveled incessantly by
the Micaelici pilgrims that were used
to visit the Cave of the Archangel
Michael since the end of the fifth
century. Interpreting the Gothic
language, the "Valley
Scannamugliéra" means "strong and
big climb." In long stretches of the
trail there are stairs, dug by farmers,
shepherds and devotees to make it
easier to climb. The attendance of
this path by Micaelici pilgrims has
determined that it was called "Scala
Santa". The whole trail is short, very
scenic, and crosses one of the most
interesting rock landscapes of the
Gargano, shaped by the secular
activity of man. Along the way are
found terraces in good condition, old
clay pits, small rooms carved into the
rock tombs and settlements. Among
century around the church the
inhabitants of the plain below gave
rise to a civil agglomeration. In fact,
all around you can see dwellings
carved into the rock.
From this point you can see the deep
valleys that descend from the
mountains to the sea. Some areas
have reforestation of conifers and an
extensive Macchia Mediterranea. One
can enjoy a wide and evocative view
that embraces the Gulf of
Manfredonia, the Tavoliere and
much of Sub-Apennines Dauno. In all
the surrounding areas you can
appreciate the ingenious works for
the control of water and the
terracings realized by farmers
engaged in subsistence agriculture.
After the lunch in a typical Apulian
agriturismo, we will visit the
Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo of
Gargano, a very famous Catholic
sanctuary.

for own use.
Day 7

rock church "All Saints" carved into
the rock on the right ridge of the
Valley Scannamugliéra. In the ninth
Breakfast and transfer to Torre di
Sagro, a suburb of Vieste. Today the
tour will be 6 hours long, for 14,7 km
in total. You walk initially among oak
trees and old farmhouses, observing
the ancient artifacts of the man who
once lived in these places. The path
is always very scenic descending to
Vieste, with broad views of the sea
and hilly landscapes, characterized
by different species of the
Mediterranean maquis. This route,
which develops in a wonderful
atmosphere, gives us an overview of
the enchanting natural landscapes of
Gargano, including the coastal and
