Agro-advisories

Looking into the drought condition, attack of thrips and cutworm caterpillar insects is being
observed. For these insects, chemical control is recommended. For control of thrips, Imidachloprid
@ 1 ml/ 4 litre of water and for control of cutworm Chlorpyriphos @ 2 ml/ litre of water is
recommended during evening hours.
 For control of Spodoptera caterpillars in Soybean, Prophenophos @ 2 ml/ litre of water is
recommended.Regular survey in soybean field for insect and disease attack and take precautionary
measures for control. In case of tobacco caterpillar infestation in soybean crop, spray of Trizophos
625ml or polytin 44 EC @1 lit.per ha in clear weather condition. The Spodoptera insect is
automatically controlled if its caterpillars come in contact with earth after splash of rains. There is
no need of application of insecticides after moderate and heavy rains and damage to crop by insects
should be monitored before any further spray.
 Farmers are also advised to keep vigil on stem borer incidence in rice crop. If their number more
than one per sq meter area, farmers may go for application of Carbofuran 33kg/ha or Fartera10
Kg/ha. Please note that after the treatment water in the field should not be drained out for at least 23 days. Application of granular insecticides is recommended only in case of availability of assured
water in field.
 The farmers who are facing the dry spells and mid season drought situation in their rice crop are
advised to be in state of readiness for broadcasting of additional dose of urea @ 10 Kg./ ha. Rice
crop will be facing the situation of less number of productive tillers. Upon receipt of light to
medium rainfall, nitrogenous fertilizers should be applied in splits at an interval of 7-10 days as this
will help compensate of less number of tillers.
