There is a great castle called Neuschwanstein. It was designed and paid for by a
king named Ludwig ll. About 150 years ago in the Kingdom of Bavaria in the South
of Germany Ludwig and his brother Otto lived with their parents. Ludwig ascended
the throne as an 18 year old. He was not interested in politics or military things. He
wanted to make great castles. Ludwig was also a reclusive man, which means that
he did not like to be around other people. Ludwig was friends with a popular
composer named Wagner, and had scenes from his operas painted and carved into
the walls in the Singers room. Ludwig loved the story of Saint George and the dragon
so he painted a large picture of Saint George fighting the dragon on the walls of.
When Ludwig was a young boy he wanted more than anything to be a knight from
the middle ages.
The Neuschwanstein was very hard to build. The first thing that had to be done was
to build a road up the mountain. In order to move large and heavy things, Ludwig
also constructed a crane to lift heavy materials. The Neuschwanstein is also the
castle in the story of Sleeping Beauty. The castle was constructed of brick,
sandstone, and limestone. It is 150 meters in size on top of the cliff. Ludwig also
paid for a bell system for the servants, telephones, running water, and flushing
toilets. On the 3rd floor is the lodging. On the 4th floor is the Singers’ Hall, which is
the biggest furnished room in the castle. The Singers’ Hall is a room that would be
in a medieval castle. It would stretch up into the roof. It is often called the Great
Hall and was where the knights would have their meetings and the banquets.
Ludwig instructed his architects to build such a big and beautiful hall in his castle,
too. The second biggest room in the castle is the throne room, which is as big as a
church. The throne room also has there are 2 million individual pieces:
