As the end of the school year approaches, we are again assessing students in reading and math;
students took the GATES reading test and Math Computation tests last week, and individual reading
assessments continue to take place. In reading, students continued Book Club discussions while we
read aloud our historical fiction novel. In writing, students began drafting Chapter Two (A Famous
Person) in their informational book. Students are reading nonfiction texts from their perspective
study to complete this section. In math, we studied Chapter 12 on Perimeter, Area, and Composite
Figures. We also began a review for Fractions to prepare for the PARCC test. In social studies,
completed the unit on American Revolution in our textbook, studying the Articles of Confederation,
the Constitution, and George Washington. The class read two Reader’s Theater scripts about how
the 13 colonies fought for independence and created the “living document,” the Constitution. We
continue our fiction (George Washington’s Socks) and nonfiction (George vs George) read alouds as
well as Liberty’s Kids videos. In word study, we completed Unit 8 (Good and Bad) Part 1 and had
quiz on Friday.
