OPENING: This bulletin will be used to fill one full time (40 hours/week) Epidemiologist 2 – Infection Preventionist
position in our Disease Prevention & Response Division – Communicable Disease Epidemiology (CD Epi) program.
This registry may also be used for any additional Epidemiologist 2 positions with similar qualifications which may occur
in the next 6 months.

SALARY RANGE: $4553.52 to $5811.58 per month. This is the full salary range for this position, not including
Longevity steps. Starting rate will generally be $4553.52.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This Infection Preventionist (IP) position provides consultative services and educational
materials for the CD Epi program in partnership with the Department of Health’s (DOH) Healthcare Associated infections
(HAI) program. The IP Consultant provides expertise regarding infection prevention practices, outbreak management,
preparation efforts for highly pathogenic infections (e.g. Ebola, measles), and surveillance of HAIs in healthcare settings,
focused on long-term care, rural critical access hospitals, urgent care centers, etc. The IP Consultant assists in formulating
policy in association with healthcare facility administrators, other infection control specialists, epidemiologists, state
associations, local health jurisdictions in the region, and rural hospitals. This position supports the programs and
mandates established in RCW 43.70.056 – a law that established reporting of infections associated with healthcare
facilities. This work is directly supported by DOH’s Domestic Ebola Supplement to Epidemiology and Laboratory
Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Grant from the CDC.
Major responsibilities include: Assists in the development/adaptation of infection prevention tools/resources locally and as
a reviewer for other statewide tools developed by the WA DOH HAI program; conducts infection prevention assessments
using DOH/CDC provided tools at various healthcare facilities; documents and compiles findings from on-site visits and
summarizes them in a report; conducts follow-up site visits; provides consultation to healthcare facilities on planning,
implementation, policy/procedures, and evaluation of infection prevention programs; works closely with communicable
disease epidemiologists and liaison; determines what educational topics, quality improvement efforts, and tools are most
needed for healthcare facilities based on site visits and feedback from prevention partners; provides infection prevention
perspective in drafting, reviewing, and editing technical reports and quality educational materials on a diverse spectrum of
infection prevention topics, from risk assessment to Ebola preparedness; presents educational materials to healthcare
facilities in a variety of educational formats; presents a summary of work in the form of webinars, progress reports, and a
presentation to the HAI Advisory Committee; participates actively with local, state, and national health organizations as
identified by the Program Manager; provides the assertive voice and presence in a variety of professional public health
communities to strongly advocate for organizational practice and policy changes with the City-wide Infection Control
Committee, Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), and others; participates in the development of the
pilot project work plan based on contract deliverables; and participates in relevant preparedness and response training
opportunities for the benefit of SRHD as well as the healthcare system partners. Serves on the SRHD Emergency
Response Team as part of the incident command staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Statistics, Bio-Statistics, Public
Health, or closely related field plus a minimum of three years of experience in infection control, epidemiology, statistics,
bio-statistics or medical field. Note: A Bachelor’s degree with five years of experience as listed above may substitute for
the Master’s degree.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
 Federal and State regulations pertaining to healthcare infection control/prevention desirable.
 Experience in infectious disease surveillance, epidemiology and/or infection prevention.
 Clinically oriented experience in a healthcare facility desirable.
 Project implementation and evaluation methods.
 Basic desktop software programs including Microsoft Office products.
 Project management and quality planning processes.
Skills and abilities:
 Demonstrate ability to plan, implement and evaluate projects, independently.
 Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate complex and technical
information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

development and implementation.
 Represent the programs, operations, and functions of the Spokane Regional Health District to the healthcare
leadership, community partners, and the public.
 A team player with a flexible and creative approach.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The employee is regularly required to sit and stand, and work 6 hours per day
keyboarding. Requires strong written and verbal communications skills. Visual acuity to read small print. Ability to lift
or carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to operate a vehicle or otherwise access multiple sites in a timely
