IEEE Industrial Interface Technical Committee

The IEEE Industrial Interface Technical Committee has a multi-disciplined
membership and serves as an interface between IEEE (standards and activities) and
industry to address the real world activities and needs of all sectors of industry and is
capable of addressing the topics of energy and power, communications, sensors,
automation, systems and controls, process controls, data collection and analysis, and
risk management.
Every industry is a system in itself and is part of a larger system. Technological
advances affect every system in one way or another. Whether a system adopts
technological innovation or shuns change, that system is still affected. Intelligent
decisions must be made by industry concerning changing technology; change happens
and decisions must be made to either adopt these changes or adapt to the effects of the
changes. The technologies that are common across all industries include energy,
communications, and risk management. Many industries actively utilize forms of
automation and automation controls or are in the process of adopting automation
technology as part of their business processes.
Technology is the one factor that emphasizes the similarity of different industries and
the diverse, multi-discipline membership of Industrial Interface Technical Committee,
representing multiple industrial backgrounds, has the ability to address the needs of
industry in regard to the broad spectrum of technical requirements that industry as a
whole faces.
