The Comparative Animal Research Department (CAR) is currently seeking a process-motivated,
scientifically-minded team player to join the Thousand Oaks team. This dynamic team is charged with
managing all aspects of animal health care for multiple species (rodent and non-rodent), providing
strong scientific and technical support to multiple therapeutic areas for in vivo studies, and assisting
technical training program. This role will collaborate closely with members of the CAR team as well as
with research staff.
Some of the responsibilities may include:
 Providing a high level of scientific and technical support to all therapeutic areas
 Providing surgical, anesthesia support and expertise in large animal species for research studies
 Providing surgical and anesthesia support for rodent surgical models
 Collaborating with the CAR veterinarians, surgeons, and scientific investigators to design and
refine animal models for in vivo research
 Providing veterinary health care and monitoring to research animals under the direction of the
CAR veterinarians
 Providing technical skills training to CAR team members and scientific investigators
 Serving in a leadership role for the design, preparation, and execution of research studies
 Work occasional weekends on rotations
Basic Qualifications:
 Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of in vivo research
Preferred Qualification:
















RVT or LVT certification
SRS certification
Certified by AALAS at the LATG level
Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in a research setting
Experience in the arena of cardiovascular research
Surgical and microsurgery experience in non-rodent and rodent species
Previous experience in managing a team of technicians
Experience leading and performing in-vivo research studies in multiple species
Strong technical skill set in large animal procedures necessary for supporting research studies
Competency in multiple database applications such as Excel, Word, Prism and Outlook
Ability to record and interpret data using electronic notebooks
Basic scientific presentation skills and experience
Proficient in aseptic technique, micro and macro-surgery, anesthesia monitoring
Proficient in basic dosing, blood collection, and sample collection techniques in rodent and nonrodent species
Experience in veterinary health care for rodent and non-rodent species in a research setting
Experience in assisting with technical training
