2. RPPM Update http://rppm.transportation.org/Pages/default.aspx - Sue Sillick and Natassja Linzau
The SharePoint 2010 platform was upgraded to SP 2013. The RPPM subcommittee had been
considering deleting the Discussion forum, as it was not functional in SP 2010. Documents can be sorted
or filtered, instead of sorting documents into folders; this improves searchability and findability. The last
thing to do – Natassja is working on “How to Use the Site” document, which will be presented to the
RPPM subcommittee on March 11. Then, we need to market RPPM to RAC, CUTC, FHWA, OST-R
and TRB/AASHTO community, including in the TRB newsletter. CCTF members should register
and become ambassadors for RPPM. Stephanie volunteered to lead a marketing subcommittee.
Barbara, Dale, Georgene and Ken will help. Sue will set up a meeting for this sub-group. Some
marketing ideas mentioned: Have a RPPM “treasure hunt” at the summer RAC meeting. An incentive
will be needed. Think about how RPPM will be used. NOTE: RPPM was marketed to the above groups
and a treasure hunt was initiated.
Dale Peabody has a new engineer starting soon. He is looking for information on methodologies to
conduct research.
3. AASHTO Outreach – Webinar on research resources for AASHTO; Volunteers: Anne Ellis, Jim
McDonnell, Sue Sillick, and Kim Willoughby, and Georgene Geary – No update
4. TRB AM Meetings, Sessions, and Workshops – Report out from attendees (see below)

Dale reported that there was good traffic at this poster session.
He also noted the current round of HVR projects are being
pulled together. Dale will note that we need to request a poster
session for TRB 2016 – COR makes the request. Barbara noted
that poster sessions don’t count as sponsoring sessions, however
lectern sessions do. Michael inquired whether we have to limit
the number of posters to the top 16 HVR. There are other
valuable research projects that could be presented. Barbara
stated that it would be necessary to contact James Bryant (TRB
staff rep) to find out if that would be possible.

Some of the key ideas from this session were that there are many
different definitions of research implementation and there is
often a gap between research and real-world deployments.
Sufficient funding must be provided for research
implementation. Many transportation agencies are risk averse
due to re-election cycles, litigation and interest groups.

Diane provided notes on session 795. Three speakers presented
information on what their organizations are doing with
knowledge management and transfer. Dr. Shin, Virginia DOT,
pointed out that an information system does not equal a
knowledge network. Nanako Mura, Kraft Foods, noted that it is
impossible to capture all institutional knowledge so it is necessary
to identify the “critical” knowledge.
