Middle School Summer Enrichment
(For students currently in grades 5-8)
Students Without Borders 2014
Melrose Public Schools is pleased to announce summer enrichment programming for all incoming and current
middle school students. The Students Without Borders program will offer students the opportunity to
experience many of the sights and sounds our area has to offer through exciting field trips and "on campus"
days participating in Creation Stations. Field trips in the past have included the Museum of Science, Plimouth
Plantation, The Salem Witch Museum, Fenway Park, bowling and other area attractions. As always, we are
planning to add new trips for the summer 2014 program to keep it interesting and engaging for returning
students. Students Without Borders will be led by our trained staff of experienced teachers and supported by
high school mentor students.
Programming will begin on Monday, June 30th, and conclude on Thursday, August 7th.
FOR CURRENT 6-8 GRADERS: Current middle school students will participate in Creations Stations on Mondays
and attend field trips Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Creation Stations provide opportunities for
students to engage in physical activity, video production, art, cooking and drama. All field trip costs are
included in this tuition. Students will be required to bring a bag lunch and wear sneakers every day. Flip flops
and sandals are not allowed.

FOR CURRENT 5th GRADERS: Current 5th grades will have the best of both worlds as they explore the world
around them and become familiar with the middle school. These students will participate in a three day
program which will run Tuesday – Thursday. Students will stay on campus on Tuesdays and travel on field trips
Wednesdays and Thursdays with the other middle school students. On Tuesdays, students will participate in
Creation Stations, which provide opportunities for students to engage in physical activity, video production,
art, cooking and drama while meeting their middle school peers. This day will be reserved as the day that only
current 5th graders are on campus. In addition to creation stations, students will also be provided the
opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the middle school including location of lockers, the gymnasium,
cafeteria, main offices, Performing Arts Center, and locations of the 6 th grade classrooms. Students will also
gain skills by engaging in team building exercises and confidence building activities, develop organization skills
and share other enrichment opportunities. All field trip costs are included in this tuition. Students will be
required to bring a bag lunch and wear sneakers every day. Flip flops and sandals are not allowed.
