Dear Authors, please make sure that you forward details of your publications on the special Faculty
Proforma (attached) to Dr Aysun Alpyurek (aysun.alpyurek@deakin.edu.au) so that Dr Alpyurek can
upload your publication on the DRO. Unless they appear on the DRO, your publications will not be counted
for the purposes of the University (PPR, etc).
Publications must meet the HERDC definition of research (see attachment)

GRANT FUNDING SUCCESSES

Richard Coverdale, the Centre for Rural Regional Law and Justice: $178,000 to be
distributed over 3 years to the Centre (to fund part-time Learning and Development
Coordinator) from Legal Services Board
Dr Lucinda Jordan, $4,000 grant from the Australasian Institute of Judicial
Administration (AIJA) to write an article on Access to justice issues in the Magistrate's
Court in rural and regional Australia. This will then form the evidence base for an ARC
application the Centre will be developing next year in partnership with James Cook
University and Flinders University.

Keynote speakers at second workshop will be Prof. Reto Hilty (Max Planck Institute for
Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Munich) and Prof. Tim Wu (Columbia
University).
RESEARCH RELATED ACTIVITIES
Prof Danuta Mendelson presented a paper and held a workshop on the ‘Abolition of
Expert Witness Protection by the United Kingdom Supreme Court in the case of
Jones v Kaney [2011] UKSC 13; 2 A.C. 398’ at the Satellite Symposium on Contemporary
Medico-legal Issues and Pain (Friday 24th August 2012, Como, Italy). The paper will be
published a an article titled ‘From Witness to Defendant’ in the Journal of Law and
Medicine.
Prof Danuta Mendelson co-presented a workshop on at the 14th Congress on Pain of the
International Association for the Study of Pain (28 August 2012, Milan, Italy)
