ONTARIO FIRST GENERATION BURSARY
Seneca College is pleased to advise our community that the Government of Ontario has continued to allocate funding
towards a bursary for First Generation Students through the Ministry’s Access and Opportunities Strategy. This
bursary opportunity provides direct support to students with financial need who are the first generation in their
family to have a post-secondary education.
Eligibility Criteria:
 You must be a student whose parents did not attend any post-secondary studies, full-time or part-time, in or
outside of Canada, at any time, in any program.
 you must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Canada (landed immigrant), or a Protected Person
 you must be considered an Ontario resident
 you must be enrolled full-time at Seneca College for the current 2015 – 2016 academic year of study
 you must have a financial need that exceeds the value of the bursary ($1,000)
 you must complete the financial needs eligibility requirement

Applicants to the Ontario First Generation Bursary must demonstrate a financial need that exceeds the value of each
eligible bursary - $1,000. If your financial need is of a lesser value, you will be ineligible for this bursary. Please be
advised you may be required to provide proof of your resources and expenses before any payments of the bursary are
released. Do not send any supporting documentation at this time but please copy this Financial Need Assessment for
your records and be prepared to provide your documentation should you be selected as a successful applicant. The
inability to provide documentation to support your assessment may result in non-payment of the bursary.

NOTICE OF COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (the Ministry) has provided your college or university with the
funding to administer the First Generation Bursary and the Aboriginal Student Bursary (Bursary programs). As a
condition of this funding, your college or university is required to make reports to the Ministry of your contact
information, the amount of bursary you receive and the date it was awarded, your study period and information
related to your eligibility for the bursary.
This personal information will be used by the Ministry to administer and finance the Bursary programs. It will
also be used to establish the minimum amount of student aid your college or university is required to provide
under the Student Access Guarantee (the Guarantee) and to administer and finance the Guarantee.
If you apply for OSAP, this personal information will be used to update your OSAP application or award,
including your declared income.
Administration includes: public reporting on the administration and financing of the Bursary
Programs and the Guarantee; monitoring and auditing your college or university or its authorized agents to
ensure that they are administering the Bursary programs appropriately; conducting risk management, error
management, audit and quality assessment activities; and conducting policy analysis, evaluation and research
related to all aspects of student assistance. Financing includes: planning, arranging or providing funding of the
Bursary programs and the Guarantee.
The ministry administers the Bursary programs and the Guarantee under the authority of the Ministry of
Training, Colleges and Universities Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.19, as amended. If you have any questions about the
