West Forsyth is again publish its literary magazine The Nine Muses this spring to highlight
the best in student and faculty writing and art. If you would like to submit original writing,
drawings, art, or photography to be considered for publication, then please contact Mr. Egan
in Room 1028. Selections will be chosen by faculty and staff and will be included in this
spring’s book.
Attention Sophomores: Want to go to the prom? For FREE? Come be a part of the
Sophomore Prom Committee. See Mrs. Hill as soon as possible in room 306 for more
information and to pick up an application!
Juniors and Seniors - get ready for your 2015 prom! The prom theme is...going to be revealed
very soon. Keep checking announcements and posters around campus for the big reveal!
 Prom - guest forms are available in the main office for any Junior or Senior bringing a date
to prom who does not attend West. The guest form must be completed and turned in when
tickets are purchased.

Prom - tickets will be on sale during all lunches 4/13 - 4/17. All tickets are $35
CASH ONLY. Debts must be cleared before tickets are purchased.
4. *2015 Hammerbird 5K for Habitat for Humanity
SATURDAY MAY 9, 2015 AT KIMBERLY PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (1701
CHERRY STREET) 5K RUN: 9:00 A.M. AND 1 MILE FUN RUN/WALK: 8:30 A.M.
Habitat for Humanity will give proceeds from all participants under 18 years of age to
go towards the Youth United Build.

SENIORS- If you are interested in being considered for community awards towards a
community college or four-year university. Please come to guidance to complete an “I
want to be considered” form by April 10.
Juniors and seniors interested in joining the military can take the ASVAB Wednesday,
April 8, at West free of charge. The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude test that measures
developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the

military. This test is required to join any branch of the military. This test is also available to
those not interested in the military. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program provides tools
to help students learn more about career exploration and planning, in both the civilian and
military worlds of work. Please sign up in the guidance department if you are interested.
The Kuandelea Alumni Chapter of Winston-Salem State University has established
three scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each. All scholarships are one-time only and
may be applied to tuition, room and board, books and/or fees at Winston Salem State
University. Kuandelea Alumni Scholarship applications must be received no later than
April 30th. If you are interested please come by guidance for the requirements and the
application form.
Forsyth Tech will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, April 11th from 9am – 1
pm on the Main campus (2100 Silas Creek Parkway). There will be an Opening Session
starting at 9:00 a.m. outside the Oak Grove Center entrance.

Are you interested in forensics? Appalachian State University will offer a summer
residential camp on forensic analysis of the human skeleton. Camp fee of $585. Limited
space, so register promptly if interested at www.camps.appstate.edu. For additional

West Forsyth PTSA is offering a scholarship to 3 seniors for $500. The student
requirements are: intention to attend a 4 year college or community, minimum 2.0 GPA,
must be a West Forsyth PTSA member effective 1st day of 4th quarter. Please come
to guidance to complete a “I want to be considered” form by April 10th .
The Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is awarding
a scholarship to deserving female minority students with the criteria being academic excellence,
character, service and strength of an essay. Please come by guidance for the application. The
completed application/materials must be mailed to the Chapter by April 10th.
The Cash-Ibraham and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Memorial Scholarships are
awarding one senior who will be selected on the basis of need, potential, unique aptitude, leadership
and scholarship in the non-renewable amount of $1,000. If you would like to be nominated please
come to guidance for the application. The application must be turned into guidance by April 8th.
The Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter of Fayetteville State University is offering a
Scholarship for $500 to the best applicant who exhibits excellence in involvement,
participation, achievement, motivation, and goals. Please come by guidance for the
application. Applications must be submitted by April 24th.

opportunities.
11. Hospice & Palliative CareCenter Grief Counseling Service's Camp Carousel takes
place this summer. Camp Carousel is a bereavement retreat for children and teens (rising
1st graders—rising 12th graders), as well as adults, who are grieving the death of a loved
one. Camp Carousel will take place Monday, July 27 - Friday, July 31, 2015.
The cost for Camp Carousel is $25 per participant and is due with registration form.
Scholarships to Camp Carousel are available. All registrations and fees are due by Monday,
July 13, 2015. You may pick up a registration form in the West Forsyth guidance
office. Please call 336-768-3972 for additional information.
12. *The West Forsyth Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Committee will be selecting 1 male and 1
female senior to receive a $1,000 1 year non-renewable award. Below are the requirements:
 Athletic participation
 Scholastic review-rank in upper ½ of the class (transcript and current report card are considered)
 2 recommendations- 1 from a West Forsyth coach and 1 from a West Forsyth academic teacher
 Financial need will be a factor if all else is equal
 Attend a 2 or 4 year postsecondary institution
 Student athlete or parent be a member of West Forsyth Booster Club-(Spring sport athletics that
have not played a sport yet this year can still join).
Seniors will need to come by guidance for an application and return all the requirements by May 2.
13. *The Kimberley Andrews Ebert Scholarship is being offered to a senior student who is to
attend one of the local community colleges. This scholarship will pay for tuition and books
for one semester and is renewable for an additional three semesters over a two-year period.
Please come by guidance for more information and the application. The completed
application must be submitted by April 26.
14. *Congratulations to the following students accepted to Governor’s School this
summer: Cole Covington (Choral Music), Omsai Meka (Math), Alexa Nix (Dance), Austin
Sharpe (Math) and Lance Smith (Theater). The selection process is extremely competitive
and we are proud of our students.
15. *Forsyth Tech Community College Courses: If you are a rising junior or senior with a
minimum 3.0 grade point average and acceptable placement test scores, you may be eligible
to take courses at Forsyth Tech next year. You must be willing to follow the Forsyth Tech
schedule and WSFCS calendar (you will need to start classes a week earlier than
WSFCS). Because of schedule conflict issues with the three different schools, students
planning to attend the Career Center next year would not be able to fit a Forsyth Tech course
in their schedule. If you are interested, please visit the Forsyth Tech website for a list of
course offerings. Then, make an appointment with your counselor to obtain the necessary
paperwork. Please note that students wishing to earn English 3 high school credit must take
three Forsyth Tech English courses.

Lifetouch studio off Kinnamon Road in Winston-Salem (6210-G Hackers Bend Court). Call

Girls Basketball will be attending team camp at UNC Chapel Hill on June 25th-27th. Camp
Fee: $280. A non-refundable deposit ($50) is due by May 1st. Contact Coach Quick at
Lbquick@wsfcs.k12.nc.us if interested in attending.

*Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Students will be meeting this Wednesday morning at 8:15
AM in room 703 for Bible study, prayer, and to talk about our upcoming field trip to
volunteer at the Special Olympics. All Students are welcome to attend. Breakfast will be
served!

We are thrilled to announce, due to very generous parents, business partners and matching
grants, we have met our PTSA Fundraising goal of $15,000! These monies will be applied to
our new Laptop Cart with 34 laptop computers and our West Teacher Grants.
If your Senior plans to apply for one of our PTSA Scholarships, he/she MUST be a PTSA
member at West! We now have over 700 PTSA members...50 are seniors! Sign up today!
Our Nomination Committee is also beginning the process of nominating four individuals for the
offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for the 2015-2016 School Year.
