JOB TITLE:
Resident Assistant

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Residential Manager, the Resident Assistant will be responsible for security of
the facility during non-business hours, and performing light maintenance and janitorial duties. The
individual will be responsible for enforcement of program policies and oversight when program staff is no
on-site.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Facility
















Sweep and mop hallways, entrance ways, stairs and elevator.
Sweep and mop ramp leading to entry way and entry way.
Strip and wax hallways twice a year.
Wipe down all picture frames in office and hallway. Wipe down elevator walls.
Clean and sweep the North and South patios, front and back of the building and the large trash
dumpster area.
Garage – Sweep and/or rinse down the garage and driveway. Empty trash cans. Ensure that the
clients are not doing repair work on their cars. Check donation bins for and discard any trash.
Laundry Room – Wipe down all washers and dryers. Clean between and behind all machines.
Sweep and mop floor. Empty trash can. Wipe down all outlets and switches.
Staff Bathroom – Clean toilet, sink and mirror. Refill toilet paper, toilet seat covers, paper
towels and hand soap dispenser. Sweep and mop floor. Empty trash can. Wipe down all outlets
and switches.
Kitchen Area – Put away clean dishes. Clean microwave. Clean refrigerator and throw away
old food. Wipe down countertop.
Playground – Clean and/or rinse jungle gym and toys. Organize toys and playground area. Pick
up trash and debris. Empty trash cans.
Community Room – Clean sliding glass doors and windows. Organize and dust bookshelves.
Wipe down couches and chairs. Sweep and mop floor. Vacuum area rug. Wipe down all outlets
and switches.
Sun Room – Clean all table and chairs. Clean sliding glass door and windows. Organize and
dust bookshelves. Sweep and mop floor.
Remove fingerprints and cuff marks from all doors, walls and cabinets.
Remove shopping carts from front of building.
Complete special maintenance or repair projects assigned by the Residential Manager.
Maintain utility closet.

Keep stairs and emergency pathways clear of debris.
Office






Clean the office windows, window ledges, blinds and vents.
Wipe down all desks, cabinets, computer monitors and office equipment.
Wipe down all outlets and switches.
Empty all trash cans.
Vacuum all offices.
Donations – Accept all donations and offer a receipt to the donors.
Clients/Security














Answer front desk phone, buzz clients and visitors into the facility.
Maintain presence in the office to provide security and availability for emergencies when staff is
not on-site.
Use the log book to record facility status every half hour.
Observe residents’ compliance with program rules.
Listen for and control excessive noise on the playground and in the units.
Conduct security rounds every half hour, including hallways, North and South patios, the alley
and garage for unusual activity.
Answer resident, visitor and/or vendor questions.
Ensure that clients only smoke in designated area.
Enforce the NO LOITERING rule outside of the building.
Monitor –
o Alarm panel and video surveillance.
o The presence of visitors by signing approved visitors in/out, while also denying access to
unauthorized persons.
Document –
o Unauthorized entrances and exits.
o Curfew violations, unauthorized visitors, and visitors leaving after curfew.
o And resolve any noise complaints.
o Abnormal or suspicious behavior of all clients.
Monitor & Document –
o Any verbal or physical abuse of children or spouses.
o Client to client altercations.
Summon police, medical and/or emergency services as needed.
Summon repair services as needed.
Units




Move the stove and refrigerator to sweep and mop all floors.
Clean all sinks and counter tops.
Clean all dressers, drawers and cabinets.
Clean the shower/tub and toilet.








Shampoo all carpets.
Clean the windows in the living room and bedroom.
Clean bathroom mirror and medicine cabinet.
Clean the stove, range, refrigerator and microwave.
Clean and dust the blinds, screens, vents and wall heater(s).
Wipe down all walls, baseboards, doors, outlets and switches.
Assist with painting and other unit repairs as needed.
Replace burned out light bulbs.
