Job Description
Job Title:
Director of Day Program and Summer Program

Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership to and direct the operation of the Arc of Katy Day Program to
ensure the provision of quality services to adults with intellectual and
developmental disabilities (IDD) that promotes the ongoing development of
socialization, recreational/leisure and daily life skills.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or other related professional field with emphasis in
serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or;
High School Degree with university course work and experience working with
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Valid Texas driver’s license to transport Day Program participants
Minimum Experience:
Three years experience working with individuals with intellectual and
developmental disabilities in a school or other related setting.
Salary:
Negotiable based on years and level of experience


Understanding of the overall needs of adults with intellectual and
developmental disabilities





Demonstrated knowledge in the development and implementation of
appropriate and meaningful programs and activities that support the
ongoing development of socialization, recreational/leisure and daily life
skills of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Organizational, interpersonal and communication skills that support
leadership responsibilities and promote a teamwork environment.
Proficiency in computer skills that support program administration.
Knowledge in budget development and fiscal management.
Ability to develop and implement program procedures to ensure program
effectiveness and efficiency.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Instructional Management
1. Direct and manage the overall operation of the Day Program and Summer Program.
2. In coordination with program instructors plan and develop quality and ageappropriate programs and supporting activities that adhere to the purpose of the
Day Program
3. Develop a monthly instructional plan and calendar that delineates the daily
activities of the Day Program and is provided to the participants and their
parents/guardians.
4. Plan for the necessary time, resources and materials to support the identified
programs and supporting activities.
5. Provide for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of programs and activities to
ensure their effectiveness and that they meet the needs of Day Program participants
Personnel Management
6. Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure the effectiveness of assigned
duties and responsibilities.
7. Identify and provide/facilitate training that meets the needs of program instructors.
8. Keep the Executive Director informed of personnel matters and recommended
corrective actions.
9. Make recommendations to the Executive Director of personnel/staffing needs to
ensure the effective operation of the program.
Administration and Fiscal Management
10. In coordination with the Executive Director develop and administer the Day
Program budget to ensure that programs and activities are cost effective and funds
are managed efficiently.
11. Develop and maintain a working relationship with HCS providers and ensure
Individual Service Plans (ISPs) are developed and provider reports are submitted as
required.
12. Develop and maintain and on-going working relationship and communication with
the Katy YMCA on program needs and site maintenance and safety.
13. Recommend to the Executive Director and Program Committee policies and
procedures to improve the program.
14. Provide a monthly administrative status report to the Executive Director to be
shared with the Program Committee and Board of Directors.
15. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents as required.
16. Provide an instructional environment that provides for the safety of the program
instructors and participants.
17. Ensure the implementation of procedures that document health and safety
incidents inclusive of parent communication as appropriate.
18. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend the
replacement and disposal of equipment as needed.
19. Ensure the Day Program busses are maintained and operational.
20. Ensure that Day Program bus drivers maintain the required licensing requirements
and insurance coverage.
Community Relations
21. Develop effective ways to engage the community members to serve as volunteers
and/or support the Day Program.
22. Develop effective ways to encourage parental involvement.
