September
September 3rd: Let’s Play ECU: Intramural and Club Sports Informational Mixer, 5pm-6pm, Hendrix Theater. The
Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness, will host an interact program that will inform participants about the
benefits of participating in Intramural and Club Sports at ECU. Facilitators will guide students through the intramural
sign-up process and also provide instructions on how students can get involved in intramurals and club sports at ECU.
November 2nd: A Trafficking Survivor Speaks/Screening of Nefarious, 6pm – 8pm, Hendrix Theater. This event will
begin with a testimony given by a survivor of human trafficking. There will also being a showing of the movie Nefarious,
which is a documentary about trafficking and how prevalent it is in the US.
December

Regular Passport Events
September
September 8th: VCLC Signature Programs Open House #1, 4pm - 6pm, LWCC Gallery. This program will serve as an
opportunity for students to engage with the signature programs offered through the Volunteer and Service Learning
Center: the Campus Kitchen at ECU, Bright Buccaneers, ECU-Writes, Pirates Give, Pirate Playtime, and Adopt a
Grandparent. Students will learn about leadership roles of each program and how to apply. Each program will present
their mission, roles and responsibilities as well as their Leadership Competencies based on the Leadership Certificate.
This is an event to recruit future student leaders and bring attention to the social justice issues addressed by ECU students.
Light refreshments will be served.
September 8th: Rationing my Refund, 6pm, Mendenhall Student Center Room. This program will discuss the actual
purpose of a refund and how students can strategize to ensure they use their refunds for the right purpose. Come and hear
Mr. Dean Smith, Director of Finance and Administration for Student Involvement and Leadership, provide an overview of
costs each student should be aware of when deciding to move off-campus.
September 8th: Major Matchmaker, 1pm – 3pm, MSC 244. The premise of this event is based off the show “Millionaire
Matchmaker”. Instead of “mixers,” “mini dates” and “master dates” to find the love of your life, students have the
opportunity to learn more about their skills and interests, and majors and careers that relate. Event facilitators will offer a
brief assessment allowing students the opportunity to identify career and vocational options based on their interests and
personality. Students will also have the opportunity to speak with career counselors and academic advisors about majors
and careers in their matched vocational areas.
September 11: 9/11 Day of Remembrance: 8AM – 2Pm, MSC Great Room 2, this event, the 9/11 Day of Remembrance
will precede the 9/12 Day of Citizenship. The purpose of this day will be to uphold the memory of those lives lost and to
encourage students to think about the importance of citizenship and patriotism. Students will likely have an opportunity
to take a moment of silence for the lives lost and to honor and uplift those who served on that day.
September 12th: Day of Citizenship, 9am-4pm, Cynthia’s Lounge – Check-In from 9-10am, Check-Out from 2pm-4pm.
The Day of Citizenship is a day of service initiated by the Volunteer Service-Learning Center to bolster community
involvement of incoming first-year students. This event will serve to facilitate a bridge between incoming students and
the Greenville Community by providing students with the opportunity to learn about and serve our community partners.
Under the leadership of upperclassmen, first-year students will immerse themselves into a 3 hour service experience that
will conclude with a reflection session. Exposure to the social injustices within the community will help disband common
misconceptions about West Greenville, encouraging students to embrace and fortify the community rather than avoid it
and fostering identity development as a Greenville community.
September 13th: Battle of the Sexes, 7pm-9:30pm, MSC Hendrix Theater. This is event will explore the perspective of
both genders on a variety of topics such as sex, relationships, politics and current events.

September 22nd: Ethnic Studies Film Series, 6pm, Science and Technology 209. The Ethnic Studies Film Series is an
interdisciplinary program in conjunction with the Ethnic Studies minor. The series will dovetail with the Pirate Read
2015 book “Enrique’s Journey” by focusing on the topic of immigration. All three films focus on the topic of
immigration but each from a different perspective. The first film “120 Days” is a documentary chronicling the journey of
a NC undocumented work as he fights to keep his family in the US. “Seeking Asian Female” is also a documentary and
centers on an American man and his search for a Chinese bride. Finally, “Welcome” is a drama film that focuses on an
Iraqi boy who journeys to France in search of love. All three films focus on immigration, identity and interpersonal
relationships.

October 24th: Make a Difference Day, 10AM – 5PM, Various sites around the Greenville Community. Make a
difference day is a national day of service, where volunteers across the nation come together to serve their respective
communities. The ECU Volunteer and Service-Learning Center would like to coordinate this movement for service in the
Greenville Community as well. ECU students, faculty and staff will be able to choose a community partner they would
like to volunteer for, serve for 2 to 3 hours, then participate in a reflection component that will be facilitated by a student
leader. We hope this day will be meaningful for students in that they will learn more about their community partners, be
exposed and made aware of different types of social inequalities in their community, and discover their identities as more
than just an ECU student as more of a Greenville community member.

November 2nd: Living Off-Campus 101, 7pm – 8pm, Mendenhall Room 244. Living Off-Campus 101 will discuss the
off-campus housing search process. Students will be educated on several including questions to ask, things to consider,
understanding a lease, and being a good neighbor. The 60 minute program will also allow students to ask questions of
ECU staff, property managers, attorney in additions to students who currently living off campus.

November 18th: Fall Housing Fair, 10am – 2pm, Mendenhall Student Center. Off-Camus Student Services will host its
second fall 2015 Off-Campus Housing Fair on November 18th from 10am – 2pm in the Mendenhall Great Rooms.
Students who are unsure about where they are going to live next year may attend to find out more about off campus
housing. Anyone who wants to learn more about preparing to move off-campus can also attend. Our office will provide
detailed information to students to help guide them through the process (budgetary and expectations) of what properties
would work best for them. Students will have the opportunity to meet with local companies, staff from a variety of
university departments and representatives from the city of Greenville. The event will include food, prizes, and
invaluable information.
