The Spatial Cognition Lab directed by Dr. Laura Carlson at the University of Notre Dame welcomes
applications for a postdoctoral research associate position from scholars working in any area of
spatial cognition. In addition to pursuing his or her own research, this postdoctoral associate will
contribute to ongoing research projects, and oversee the daily functions of the lab. Programming
experience is required. In addition, experience with eye tracking systems and with virtual
environments is highly preferred.
The successful candidate should:
• Have completed a PhD degree
• Have strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to publish research results
and make scientific presentations
• Be expected to contribute to and collaborate with faculty and students
• Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as within a
collaborative lab team environment
Tenure: The initial appointment is for one year, but is renewable upon successful performance.
Salary: Based on NIH guidelines for postdoctoral fellow salaries
Recruitment and Selection: Because of widely varying disciplinary norms in the recruitment and
selection of postdocs, there are no uniform search or selection procedures defined by the University
that hiring units must follow to identify an individual in a Postdoctoral Appointee position.
Nonetheless, hiring units must observe all University policies on non-discrimination and make good
