Napoleon Bonaparte, emperor of France, was exiled to St. Helena after his
defeat in 1815 by the British. The conditions on the island of St. Helena
were inhospitable - hot, unsanitary & disease was widespread. He lived in
unhealthy conditions that many believe led to arsenic poisoning. He bagan
suffering abdominal pains & swelling in his joints. On May 5, 1821 he died.
His autopsy revealed that he died from complications of stomach cancer.
There are numerous conspiracy theories about his death. Some believe that
he died from arsenic poisoning at the hands of the British. Some believe that
his doctors slowly poisoned him. Forensic scientists have attempted to
analyze his hair for metal poisoning. Some people do not believe that it was
