January – Term 3
Extreme weather
This topic will be delivered as part of a creative curriculum covering key skills within DT, Art, History,
ICT and Geography in particular. Pupils will learn many different skills. Some of which have been
identified below.
Geography
The pupils will be identifying different types of extreme weather from all around the world. We will
be looking at the effects they have on millions of lives and the environment. We will also be
identifying specific areas that are affected by extreme weather and why this occurs.
History
This is a topic with an obvious emphasis towards Geography. However we will be looking at
historical dates of significance. We will be looking at different strategies that have been used in
history to try and battle extreme weather.
Art and DT
We will be focusing on abstract art this term. Pupils will be designing and creating their own extreme
weather abstract art piece of work. They will be studying famous pieces of abstract art and basing
their own designs on their favourite.
Pupils will be undertaking a design technology project this term. As mentioned above pupils will be
looking at ways in which people have tried to live with extreme weather. We will be planning,
designing, making and evaluating our own structures that will be built to withstand a specific
extreme weather.
Literacy
The pupils will have literacy incorporated daily throughout this topic and their literacy lessons. There
are a number of different authors and pieces of work which we will be reading and analysing. Pupils
will also be completing research, writing newspaper articles and letters from varying viewpoints
linked to extreme weather.
There will be considerable literacy opportunities throughout this topic and the pupils will be
engaged in numerous genres of writing.

‘Apex Predators’
The focus of this term’s topic is to study some of the world’s apex predators. We will be identifying
what makes an apex predator. We will be visiting London Zoo with a direct focus on apex predators.
This topic will be delivered as part of a creative curriculum covering key skills within DT, Art, History,
ICT and Geography in particular. Pupils will learn many different skills. Some of which have been
identified below.
Geography
There is an obvious emphasis on Geography for this topic. The pupils will be identifying where
certain apex predators live. We will be looking at maps and using other geographical skills
throughout this topic. The pupils will be identifying key environmental factors which allow some of
the apex predators to thrive.
Art
We will be completing as much art as possible throughout this topic. To start the topic we will be
creating our very own apex predator art work. Pupils will be using collage to create some very bold
posters. Our trip to London Zoo will also allow the children to practice their observational drawing
skills. We will be using these to create our own apex art pencil drawings.
Literacy
The pupils will have literacy incorporated daily throughout this topic and their literacy lessons. There
are a number of different authors and pieces of work which we will be reading and analysing to
encourage learning. Pupils will also be completing research, writing letters, work on their sentence
structure and much more throughout the duration of this topic. Pupils will be engaged in numerous
genres of writing.

September – Term 1
Ancient Egypt
This topic will be delivered as part of a creative curriculum covering key skills within Maths, Literacy,
Art, History, ICT and Geography. Pupils will learn many different skills. Some of which have been
identified below.
History
We will be learning all about the Ancient Egyptians this term. Comparison to their lives will be made
throughout this topic. The main learning points have been pointed out below.






Introduction to Ancient Egypt.
Learn about famous ‘Egyptologists’ and their techniques used.
Pharaohs and Pyramids
Tombs
Daily life
Mythology
Geography
There is an obvious opportunity to look at the geographical whereabouts of the Ancient Egyptians.
We will be focussing on the Nile in particular. Identifying its location, the diversity of the countries of
which it passes through and its usefulness to the Egyptians.
Art
There are many opportunities to complete Art within this topic. We will be looking at the Egyptian
Gods and designing our own. Our main piece of Art this term will be based on the famous tomb
paintings that were discovered. Many of these tomb paintings were beautiful and described the
journey to the afterlife for the pharaoh.
Religious Education and PSHE
We are going to be learning about the Ancient Egyptians and their beliefs throughout the topic.
Comparisons between cultures and beliefs will be made constantly. This term we will also be
focussing on the differences between Christians, Hindus and Sikhs. For their PSHE this term we will
be focussing on Health, Wellbeing and Safety. There are many different aspects that we will be
looking at. Pupils’ will be learning how to make healthy decisions, all the through to how to respond
to an emergency.
Literacy
The pupils’ will have literacy incorporated daily throughout this topic and their literacy lessons.
There are a number of different authors and pieces of work which we will be reading and analysing.
Pupils will be focussing on recount writing, non-chronological report writing and poetry.
There will be considerable literacy opportunities throughout this topic and the pupils will be
engaged in numerous genres of writing.
