The University of Texas System Kenneth I. Shine, M.D. Academy of Health Science Education
ANNUAL MEETING
February 19-20, 2015
Submissions are being requested for the 2015 Annual Meeting of the UT System Kenneth I Shine MD
Academy of Health Science Education to be held Thursday and Friday February 19-20, 2015
The theme of this year’s meeting is: Integrating the Patient Perspective: An Imperative for Educational
Research and Innovation. The Education Committee encourages submissions that relate to this theme;
however, all submission topics related to education in healthcare are welcome.
There are five submission types for this year’s meeting: Workshops, Small Group Discussions, Abstracts,
Demonstrations, and Roundtable Discussions.

Workshops
The focus of a workshop session is to impart new knowledge or skills to participants. Workshops
should be interactive and all participants should be actively engaged in the session. Workshop
submissions must include a clear statement of the proposed outcome for attendees.
There are two types of workshops submissions:
(1) Pre-conference workshops ( to be held Thursday morning) 2 hour sessions
(2) Conference workshops (to be presented Thursday afternoon Friday morning) 1 hour sessions

Small Group Discussions
Small Group Discussion sessions address current topics or problems in healthcare education. The
small group discussion should include a brief didactic overview of the topic, followed by guided
discussion with participants. All small group discussions are 60 minutes and will be Thursday
afternoon or Friday morning.

Abstracts (either educational research or innovations)
Abstract proposals are short structured submissions that describe research or innovations in
healthcare education. Abstracts describing curriculum development, new programs, education
focused projects or formal studies are all welcome. Selected abstracts will be presented as posters
at the meeting. A small number of abstract submissions will be invited for oral presentation.
Poster and oral presentations will be Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Demonstrations
Demonstrations allow the presentation of projects for interactivity with attendees. Presenters will
be provided with a table to display audio-visual materials, computer-based hardware, software, or
equipment used in a curriculum project, innovation, or approach to learning/assessment.
Demonstrations will be Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Roundtable Discussions
Roundtable discussions provide a venue for informal discussions of selected topics. Submitters
who serve as roundtable discussion facilitators should have experience or expertise in the topic,
and are responsible for guiding the group in an open exchange of ideas. Roundtables will be held
on Thursday morning.
