Position Summary
This Masters Level statistician will work in the Preventive Medicine Public Health Department of the KU School
of Medicine – Wichita. This individual will work within the department providing statistical support to
investigators and serving as a statistical resource for the MPH students.
Minimum Qualifications





Master’s Degree in a statistical related field
Experience analyzing and interpreting statistical data
Experience with statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data
Advanced knowledge of statistics, including generalized linear and mixed model, survival analysis and
nonparametric methods
Proficiency in one or more statistical software packages (SAS, S-Plus, R, StatXact, LogXact, or SPSS) for
manipulation and analysis of data sets
Preferred Qualifications



3 or more years’ experience in a medical setting
Experience as a teaching assistant
Experience working with medical professionals

Ability to operate personal computer and
various software packages such as Word,
EXCEL, Access, and PowerPoint
Ability to manage very large datasets
Experience with the design and
maintenance of relational databases (such

Essential Functions
Research Consulting/Collaboration – 85%







Assist faculty by providing statistical support for research projects in the areas of study design, data
extraction, appropriate statistical analysis and interpretation of results
Provide statistical support and consultation for grant preparation, studies and protocols
Provide consultation on statistical method, questionnaire construction, and data gathering and analysis
techniques
Develop and analyze a variety of research data, using appropriate statistical methods: design and apply
standardized and customized computer techniques to data analysis using statistical analysis software.
Create and maintain statistical and informational databases and data entry forms
Prepare consistency checks, tables, and figures
Write scientific reports, assist with the preparation of manuscripts, and contribute to the preparation of

research proposal for submissions to external funding agencies, including federal, local, and private
foundations
Implement research studies and prepare summary data for research publications
Teaching – 5%


Provide support for the Master of Public Health biostatistics courses (clinical trials, epidemiologic
statistics, etc.)
Provide training in statistical methodology, data management strategies and statistical software as
appropriate to researches and MPH students.
Strategic Research Planning and Policy/Procedure Development – 5%

Provide support toward implementation of specific plans and policies/procedures
Administrative Duties – 5%

Manage research databases in producing reports as needed by the Preventive Medicine Public Health
Department.
