INFLUENZA
 Proper HAND WASHING is VERY important during this season
Influenza – Upper Respiratory Virus
 Influenza or “the flu” is caused by viruses in the RESPIRATORY tract
 This is an airborne/direct contact virus. Cough into your shoulder or use a Kleenex
 Symptoms may include:
o Rapid onset of fever (over 100.0)
o Chills
o Non-productive cough
o Extreme exhaustion/tiredness/weakness
o Sore Throat
o Runny Nose
o Headache
o Body aches
 Children should be fever free (Not medicated) for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Stomach flu - Gastrointestinal Virus
 Influenza or “stomach flu” is caused by viruses in the GASTROINTESTINAL tract
 Symptoms of the stomach flu may include:
o Diarrhea – there may be blood or mucus in the stool
o Nausea
o Stomach pain
o Vomiting
o Fever
 Children that are NOT feeling well and/or need to use the bathroom at frequent intervals
should not be in school.
