OCTOBER 2014
AGM
It's that time of year again! Our AGM will be held at
Padanaram Hall on Monday October 20th at 7.30pm.
Come along, if only to hear your Chair get all mixed up
yet again about the process of electing a new
committee!!! Prize giving for summer leagues and
annual awards also takes place and then there's the
chance for a chat and some 'light' refreshments. It’s
SDRC, that obviously includes wine!
Subscriptions will be due at the AGM, If not renewed
by end of November then an extra £5 joining fee will
be required on top of the £24. This does not mean you
are still a member though till end of November, if your
subs haven't been paid at date of AGM you will not be
able to attend leagues or lessons so please ensure
they are paid to avoid embarrassment.
Committee
SDRC is not OUR club it’s YOUR Club. Being on the
committee is not something you have to be invited to
do, it's not a secret society, everyone is welcome to
put their hand up and offer to join us!
If you've ever wondered what's involved in becoming a
member of the Committee, here's a quick rundown About 10 committee meetings a year
New members don't usually adopt an office bearer's
role, we let you settle in for a wee while first!
We all help as much as we can in the set up of SJ
courses, dressage arenas etc.
Most committee members take responsibility for
organising an area of club life. This can be dressage
league/sj league, flatwork or showjumping lessons,
one off events, shows etc.
Being on the committee is quite a commitment (wonder if that's where word committee comes from,
they sound very alike!) but you get the satisfaction of
knowing you have contributed to your Club. SDRC
needs volunteers in any shape or form, whether
committee members or those of you who offer to help
at specific times.
If you'd like to give it a go, come along to the AGM
and put that hand up if you'd like to give it a try, we
don't bite, although we do like a bit of new blood.....
Leagues
Show Jumping - a reminder to contact either Jean or
Donna if you'd like to come along to the Mini SJ. This
is held directly after Main SJ League and we need to
know if you're coming so we can plan our day. More
details about SJ league on our website.
Dressage - Jane Smith (Spillers feed rep) is coming
along to October dressage league with her horse
scales! If you'd like advice re feeding your horse and a
chance to have your horse accurately weighed and
condition assessed then here's your chance! Jane will
be at Angus RDA from 12pm - 2pm. Unfortunately we
can only accommodate competitor’s horses at this
event as we don't have the parking space for
additional lorries/trailers. If there's demand though, we
can invite Jane to attend another club event later in
the year.
NN Dressage
For the benefit of new members, this is a non
competitive event designed to introduce nervous
riders and/or young horses to the dressage arena.
Held indoors at Angus RDA, this is run along the lines
of a competition (wear all your posh gear please, plait
up, clean your tack, add some bling if you want!!!) but
without the stress of a riding alongside the dressage
divas of the main league! (Don't take offence, main
leaguers).
You ride 2 Intro tests and are judged by one of the
afore mentioned Dressage Divas and then get
feedback at the end of the afternoon to explain your
marks. No placings, no rosettes but only £3 a test.
The aim is to build on your confidence to hopefully
move onto Main league in the summer but you can
stay at NN level for a long as you feel comfortable.
If you want more information about this contact Claire
the Chair or Jo Graham.
Condolences
By now, many of you will be aware that SDRC
member, Fiona Fleming, tragically lost a much loved
family pony recently in a fire at the family home. Our
condolences and thoughts are with the Fleming family
at this very difficult time.
Website
Quite often, we get facebook messages, texts and
phone calls asking us for information which can easily
be found on the website. Make no mistake, We DO
love hearing from you but it kind of points to the fact
that people are forgetting about our website. Go now have a look, click on all the pages... Loads of info, all
at your fingertips! Facebook is Fantastic, Texts are
Terrific, Phone calls are Fabulous but don't forget that
the Website is Wonderful!!! www.sdrc.org.uk.
Lectures/Demos
In September we held a Thermal Imaging demo at
Jacqui Murdoch's home/stables. This proved to be
very interesting and it was a great social occasion with
a chance for members to get to know each other
without having horses to look out for. leaving the
horses at home allowed members to get down to the
serious business of chatting and laughing!! Committee
member, Jo Graham, is keen to organise other events
where members can both learn and get to know each
other better. She's currently working on the possibility
of a Biomechanics clinic too. If you have any
suggestions for future events of this type please get in
touch with Jo and she'll be happy to explore the idea
further.
Happy News Section
Just Married? Engaged? Divorced? Won the lottery?
Achieved a PhD? Moving out the Area and want to
say goodbye...List is endless but if you'd like to share
your news then let a committee member know and
we'll shout it out from here!!!
Check our website too for a new section on recent
successes of members Out and About. If you have
achieved something with your horse that you’re proud
of- doesn’t have to be winning a class at HOYS, it can
be any milestone along your equestrian road trip.
