FOUNDATION CREATES FLOOD RELIEF FUND
Please give to Colorado Flood Disaster Relief. The Rocky Mountain United Methodist Foundation is accepting
donations for the Colorado Flood Disaster Relief Fund and will ensure that 100% of your donations will directly
benefit those affected by the floods this September 2013. Donations are being accepted online and by mail.
Website: www.rmumf.org , then press the Online Donation button. You may also send checks to: Rocky Mountain
United Methodist Foundation, Inc. 7350 E. Progress Pl., Suite 205 Greenwood Village, CO 80111. If you have
questions, you may call the Foundation office at (303)778-6370. The Rocky Mountain United Methodist
Foundation, Inc. is an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation is organized to support United
Methodist Churches and related ministries with financial services.
AMERICORP AT FUMC
We are hosting an AmeriCorp team of 10 at FUMC. They are staying in our church over the next two weeks.
These volunteers will be working at the local disaster relief center taking applications for FEMA funds and
distribution of supplies. If you would like to provide a meal or assist our hosting of this team, please contact Rev.
Jane.
SUNDAY EVENING DISCIPLE I
Class begins TODAY from 6:30-9:00pm in Room E230. If you have not signed up for this foundational and
inspirational study of the Bible, come tonight for an overview of the study.
CROP WALK
If you haven't had a chance yet to sign-up to walk in the Crop Walk or sponsor a walker, please stop in Coy Hall
TODAY and Pat Lutz and Richard Brandon will be glad to help you. Church World Service and House of
Neighborly Service need your help now more than ever, as thousands of evacuees are without basic needs. There
is an envelope to sponsor Rev. Brian Riecke, or if you would like you can go online
to http://www.churchworldservice.org/goto/arbycub and make your donation to any of the walkers.
TODAY IN THE SEARCHERS CLASS
The topic for the Searchers class this Sunday will be a follow-up on last Sunday's session, "The Evolution of God."
It will be a class discussion on how your faith/beliefs have been reinforced or "evolved" through the years because
of your own experiences. We hope several will be willing to share their experiences. The class meets at 9:45am in
Rooms S030 & S040 in Fellowship Hall.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH IHN
FUMC will be hosting families from Loveland's Interfaith Hospitality Network on September 29 - October 6. IHN
brings faith communities together to help families regain their housing, their independence, and their
dignity. Hosting the families offers volunteers an opportunity to assist in reducing homelessness and transforming
lives. Please stop by the IHN table TODAY in Coy Hall to see how you can help with this much needed ministry.
METHODIST MEN’S FELLOWSHIP
Join us in Coy Hall on Sunday, October 6 at 7:00am for the Methodist Men’s Fellowship. Our guest speaker will be
Dr. Bob Eatman. Bob will give us a travel log account of his recent Safari trip to South Africa. We can all look
forward to an entertaining slide presentation from his experience. Everyone is invited for a delicious breakfast,
good fellowship and this informative speaker. Call Roy Allen at 635-2672 with questions.
A SHORT TERM STUDY OF ROMANS
Dr. Jane will offer a series of short term Bible studies from September 26 through May 15, 2014, on Thursday
mornings from 10:00 -11:30am. This Immersion Bible Study provides a fresh new look at the Bible from beginning
to end, and what it means in your life. Each book we study will take six weeks. The first study is based on
Romans. Books usually cost $7.00 each. Join in when you can. Sign-ups for new studies are always on the Ask
Me Desk.
CORNER2CORNER
As we begin another year of reaching out to the children at Truscott Elementary, we are in need of folks to work
with children on their reading and math skills (our fifth graders have LOTS of homework!). We also need folks to
share a skill or talent. We supply 40 children with snacks and drinks twice a week, so if you could help us
donations of snacks/drinks, you may drop them off with Rev. Lauren or Judy Graff.
BETH MOORE’S "BREAKING FREE"
Join Beth Moore on a Bible journey unlike any other. This Beth Moore study leads you through scripture to
discover the transforming power of freedom in Jesus Christ. Themes for this study come from Isaiah, a book about
the captivity of God's children, the faithfulness of God, and the road to freedom. This interactive study is 10 weeks
and will be held on Wednesdays from 9:00 - 11:00am starting October 2. All women are welcome! The cost of the
book is $16-20. Sign-up at the Ask Me Desk today! Or contact Kelly Walker at kwalker0821@hotmail.com or call
(303) 746-4489.
LAST CALL FOR MESSY SPIRITUALITY
This is the last call to register for the Messy Spirituality study that will be offered on Thursday EVENINGS, 6:30 8:30pm from October 3 - November 21. Messy Spirituality was written by Michael Yaconelli for the silent majority
of us, Christians who spend most of our lives worried about what we don't do instead of what we have done. Do
you feel like you are not a very good Christian, don’t pray enough, don’t read the Bible enough, don’t share your
faith enough, don’t love God enough, not committed enough or not spiritual enough? If you do, this study is for
you. Please sign-up at the Ask Me Desk or send Cynthia Paquette an e-mail at cckhoo2@gmail.com.
HOLY HAPPY HOUR
Theology on Tap is an opportunity for men to discuss biblical and theological questions from a biblical perspective
in an informal atmosphere. The group meets monthly on the first Thursday (October 3) at 5:00pm in a local
pub/brewery (usually Aleworks) for good conversation over pretzels and beverages. Bring your questions, insights,
and your Bible! To join the Holy Happy Hour contact Josh Walker or Mike Gillette for an email list of meeting
reminders and locations. Cheers!
FAMILY NIGHT DOUBLE DARE!!
Come to a potluck for all families with children on October 12 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at Westside Park on 4th Street.
We’ll have a little family competition so brush up on your trivia and your athletic skills! Sign-up on Sunday's at the
Ask Me Desk. On Wednesday's, sign-up outside of our K.I.C.K. choir room.
ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION AND YOU!
We realize not everyone has a computer. We also realize not everyone wants to share their email or be available
electronically. During this last week, the easiest way to communicate immediate needs, schedule changes, etc.
because of the disaster was the weekly email Rev. Jane sends to 252 households of our congregation. This email
comes from REVJYRIECKE@yahoo.com. If you signed up to receive it and have not received it, make sure you
check your SPAM folder and tell your email provider to accept the email from this address. If you have not signed
up for our E-News or "Into the Week Ahead," please do so by emailing Rev. Jane at revjane@fumcloveland.com.
She will put you on the list.
FACEBOOK AND FIRST UMC LOVELAND
Another means of communication for our staff is our Facebook Page, First UMC Loveland. We regularly send out
announcements, post pictures of events and make invitations to events through our Facebook Page. Right now
we have 80 likes for our page. We'd like to have at least 150. Can you help us reach our goal? Sign in to
Facebook and then search for our page, First UMC Loveland, then hit the "like" button. We promise we will do our
best to keep you up to date on activities.
AT HOME MOM'S
Do you juggle working at home and raising children and find yourself feeling alone? Do you long for conversation
with other mom's who work at home? Then we have a small group for you. Kelly Walker and Dorie Berdahl are
gathering mothers together in the next month. If you are interested, please call Kelly at (303) 746-4489 or Dorie at
(970) 217-2421 to find out more.
CAVE CINEMA PRESENTS
The 3rd week of every month, we will view a movie in the Cave Cinema Room at FUMC and then follow up the
following week analyzing it from a religious and/or theological perspective in an open dialogue environment. If
you’d like to join us for a movie, popcorn, and discussion contact Josh Walker at (303) 775-1518 or at
jwalker0316@gmail.com.
