Candidates for ordained ministry
Specified ministries of Community Minister, Lay Pastor, and Youth Worker
Pastors & Deaconesses
Ministers of the Word & Deacons
Ministers from another denomination serving in an approved placement
Retired Ministers are also bound by the Code of Ethics and are required to attend training if
in active ministry (e.g. supply ministry, leading worship on a regular basis)
All Ministers in these categories must attend Ethical Ministry training. If a Minister is unable to
attend the sessions offered within their Presbytery they will need to attend in another Presbytery.
What’s my commitment?
Workshops cover two themes each year and each specified minister must attend both workshops.
Allow for four hours each time, including refreshments or lunch. Best of all, they are TOTALLY FREE
OF CHARGE!! AWESOME!!!
Sydney North, Sydney and Kuring-gai Presbyteries are offering all their workshops to all three
Presbyteries, so feel free to choose a date and place that suits you best.
Dates for SNP (note there will be many more dates available in Kuring-gai and Syd.)

Before each meeting, facilitators will circulate three prepared case studies on the selected theme.
Each participant is to read the case studies and either:




prepare a one page reflection sheet on one of the case studies; OR
write a case study on the current theme based on personal experience, with names changed
to protect the guilty; AND
send these to the facilitator ahead of time so that the case studies may be included for
discussion for the benefit of others.
Other requirements may be asked by other Presbyteries.
Why?
1. To ensure that all ministry practitioners, lay and ordained, are familiar with and informed by
the Assembly document Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice.
2. To enable all ministry practitioners, lay and ordained, to engage in personal guided
reflection on the practice of ministry through the medium of case studies.
3. To encourage and facilitate collegiality by requiring all ministry practitioners, lay and
ordained, to be involved twice each calendar year, meeting for three hours in a small group
to discuss issues of professional conduct and the practice of ministry.
4. To contribute to the development of a community of practice in which all ministry
practitioners are supported and given help in the process of learning by peers and the
Presbytery.
