HOT OFF THE PRESS! (AUGUST 20): NEW SECONDARY MATH
CURRICULUM
Mr. Stockmann, one of our secondary Math teachers, is piloting a new Math
curriculum: EngageNY. Developed in New York, this curriculum encompasses the
latest in research regarding how to best teach different levels of Math to teenagers.
Content-wise, the curriculum was developed with Common Core Standards in mind.
As a matter of fact, many schools in Washington State are adopting EngageNY
because it is so closely aligned with our State Standards. We are very excited about
this opportunity to engage our students to the max through the best curriculum
currently out there.
Mr. Stockmann will work closely together with Mr. Harris, our other secondary Math
teacher, to plan, implement, and evaluate the adoption of EngageNY. They will do
this work in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) for (secondary) Math.
As part of the adoption process, which lasts an entire school year, your input and
feedback is greatly appreciated. The curriculum will eventually have to be approved
by the School Board for official adoption in 2015-2016. The Board will take all public
input and comments into account when deciding whether or not to approve the new
curriculum.
