Mathematics Instructional Materials Review
This year we are giving schools several options for Mathematics materials in
grades 6 - 12. This will allow us to pilot several programs in our district for a year
during our Common Core transition. Schools must select the same program for
use by all of their math teachers (some exceptions at the high school level). You
decide how the decision is made for your school. The options are:
Grades 6 – 8
 Harcourt Go Math!: Includes consumable worktext, full student and teacher
access to online materials
 Glencoe Math: Includes consumable worktext, full student and teacher
access to online materials
 Carnegie Learning: Includes consumable(?) worktext, access to some
student and teacher resources online.
**We are not offering MathXL as an option for grades 6 – 8 this year.
Middle Schools: Each school must select the same program for the entire
school. This will help facilitate collaboration and vertical and horizontal
alignment.
Grades 9 – 12 (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Advanced Math)
 Holt McDougal/Harcourt: Explorations in Mathematics workbooks (one per
student) and full online student and teacher access to basal program
 Glencoe/McGraw Hill Mathematics: One workbook per student plus full
online student and teacher access to basal program
 Carnegie Learning: Includes worktext and access to student and teacher
resources online. (no advanced math program)
 MathXL: Online access only. Only schools who used MathXL last year and
have a student textbook that can be used with MathXL will be able to
continue using it next year. This is a supplemental program and must be
used in conjunction with a textbook.
High Schools should choose one program for all of their math courses – except for
courses that continue to use MathXL. This will help with collaboration and
vertical and horizontal alignment.
Informational Sessions – May 21
In order to facilitate an informed decision, we will have some informational
sessions for each product on Thursday, May 21. These will be in the afternoon on
the first half day for students. By the end of the week, teachers will be able to
register for which sessions they would like to attend. It is not mandatory that
teachers attend the sessions. It will just help provide information about the choices
available. Schools could send math or grade level chairs, teachers, teacher leaders,
curriculum coaches, administrators, etc.
