The “AMICI DELLA MUSICA” Association in collaboration with MUNICIPALITY OF
ALLUMIERE and SCOMEGNA Music Editions, with the sponsorship of the FONDAZIONE
Ca.Ri.Civ., organizes the International Composition Competition for Brilliant Marches “CITTÀ
DI ALLUMIERE.”
The Competition aims to enrich the brilliant march, a musical heritage characteristically
associated with the wind band.
Article 1
The “Città di Allumiere” Competition is open to international composers without age limits.
Composers are allowed to participate with more than one composition.
Article 2
Compositions must adhere to the following guidelines:

grade of difficulty not higher than 3;

the duration must not exceed 3 minutes;

the marches must be written for the following formation:
C Piccolo (opt.), C Flute (max 2 voices), Oboe (opt.), Eb Clarinet (opt.),
Bb Clarinet (max 3 voices), Bb Bass Clarinet (opt), Soprano Sax (opt.),
Alto Sax (max 2 voices), Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax,
Horn (max 2 voices), Bb Trumpet (max 2 voices), Trombone (max 2 voices),
Eb Flugelhorn (opt.), Bb Flugelhorn (max 2 voices, opt.),
C Euphonium, C Tuba, Snare Drum, Cymbals, Bass Drum, Glockenspiel (opt.).
Article 3
Entries must be original, unpublished, and never previously performed compositions. Works
requiring the use of electronic instruments, as well as computerized parts and sound effects to be
reproduced on CDs or other electronic media are not allowed.
Compositions must be submitted in clearly readable full score and full set of parts and their
dimensions cannot exceed the A3 size. They must be computer-generated using music-notation
software; handwritten scores will not be accepted. Entries must be anonymous; therefore, the
composer’s name or any other identification sign (such as a mottos, titles, names, numerical or letter
codes, etc.) must not appear on the score or parts.
All submitted scores and sets of parts will not be returned and will be held in the historical archive
of the competition.
Article 4
To enter the Competition, composers must send to the Segreteria del Concorso an envelope
containing:

4 (four) completely anonymous copies of the full score of the composition;
•
1 (one) copy of the full set of parts;
•
1 (one) CD with an mp3 file of a digital performance of the march (live performances
are not admitted);
•
A sealed envelope containing:

The completed entry form that is attached to this competition announcement, including
the dated and signed statement at the bottom of the page;

Proof of payment of the entry fee;

Name, mail address, telephone number, and email address of the author of the
composition.
The envelope must be mailed by registered mail by February 28, 2015 (date of departing postmark)
to the following address:

Composers who are participating with more than one entry must send them separately following the
above indicated procedure.
Article 5
The competition entry fee is 40 (forty) Euros for each submitted entry. Payment must be made by
bank transfer to the following account:

Reason: quota di iscrizione 3° Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Per Marce Brillanti
“CITTA’ DI ALLUMIERE”.
Bank expenses are to be paid by the participating composer. The entry fee is not refundable.
Article 6
Compositions will be examined by a jury of three experts of the national/international wind band
arena:
~ M° Marco Somadossi, Professor of Composition and Wind Orchestra Conducting at the
Conservatory of Music “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine (Italy);
~ M° Stefano Gatta, Director of the Military Band of the Republic of San Marino;
~ M° Salvatore Tralongo, Conductor and Composer.
Article 7
Prizes will be devided as follows:
First Prize € 1,000 (thousand) + Trophy “Città di Allumiere”
Second Prize € 500 (five hundred) + Plaque
Third Prize € 250 (two hundred and fifty) + Plaque
The above listed money prizes are inclusive of taxes.
Each participating composer will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Article 8
SCOMEGNA Edizioni Musicali reserves the right to consider the winning composition of the
Third “Città di Allumiere” Composition Competition for Brilliant Marches for possible publication.
Furthermore, SCOMEGNA Edizioni Musicali reserves the right to publish also other compositions
submitted to the Competition, even if they did not win the first prize.
Article 9
The Competition will be divided into two phases:

Eliminatory

Final
Jury members will receive the anonymous scores directly from the Competition Secretary Office;
scores will be only marked with a progressive number assigned by the Secretary Office.
Compositions will be evaluated by the jury in a scale from 0 to 100. Only entries that receive at
least 70/100 can be admitted to the final phase. The jury will evaluate the compositions and
communicate to the Secretary Office the list of the ten best marches to be admitted to the final
phase. Marches selected for the final phase will be premiered on the evening of Saturday June 13,
2015 by the Complesso Strumentale “Amici della Musica” of Allumiere.
The Secretary Office will promptly notify the results to the composers whose works have been
admitted to the final phase. Chosen composers must send within ten days from notification their
curriculum vitae and the title of the march to the Competition Secretary Office.
Article 10
The jury, upon hearing the performance of the ten marches admitted to the final, will once again
evaluate the compositions: the grade point average will determine the final classification. The
march obtaining the highest average score of the two combined evaluations will be declared winner
of the Competition. According to the average score obtained, the compositions following the first
place will be declared winners of the second and third prizes. In the case of a tie, money prizes will
be divided between the participants.
Article 11
For everything not expressly included in this announcement as well as everything pertaining to the
organization, logistics, and administration of the Competition, the only responsible party is the
“Consiglio Direttivo del Concorso.” Musical and artistic matters will pertain only to the “Organo
Artistico del Concorso” in the persons of the Artistic Director, the Director of the Associazione
“Amici della Musica” of Allumiere, and the Competition Consultant.
Article 12
According to the D. Lgs. 196/2003, all gathered information will be used exclusively for the
purpose of this Competition announcement.
Article 13
In case of necessity, any dispute shall be settled by the Court of Civitavecchia.
