Currently, SDSU has a pre-physical therapy program; consequently, the library has only
collected at a minimal level in these areas. The following table (derived from the book
vendor’s database) provides this information. The numbers and costs of titles in each of
the subject areas and appropriate levels for a DPT program were published last year.

Journals
Just as the delivery of journal articles has changed from print to online, so have
the subscription models for journals changed as well. Libraries now subscribe to
journals three different ways, via the traditional individual subscription received
either in print or online, as part of a large journal package from a single publisher
(this may be all titles or a selected set of titles), and finally via aggregator
databases. This last way is the most undesirable as the vendor does not own
the content and is at the mercy of the publishers who readily pull their content in
and out of such services. In addition there is a small set of journals that are
freely available.
The following indicates which journals have been selected for inclusion in Web of
Science (AKA Science Citation Index). This tends to focus on high quality, high
“impact” journals.

When available, pricing has been included. The DPT faculty and the library will
need to determine which titles are required and those for which inter-library loan
will suffice. Most material ordered via ILL is delivered in 18 hours; some articles
may take a week. The library can obtain up to 5 articles published in the last five
years in a journal each year for free; after that copyright fees must be paid.
These fees can range from $30 to $90 per article; the health sciences typically
range from $30 to $50. All of these titles are included in Web of Science.

Computing costs.
The CSU has established an integrated electronic environment that enables all CSU
students, faculty, and staff to communicate with one another and to interact with
information resources anytime, and from any place. Faculty members and students have
email and web access from on-campus and off-campus locations.
CSU’s Multimedia Educational Resources for Online Teaching and Learning (MERLOT)
has extensive digital resources and will be available to faculty and students in the DPT
program. DPT faculty may establish an online Teaching Commons on Merlot and may
add resources to the MERLOT collection. This is an open access, continually growing
web-based compendia of resources.
