APWH FRQ SAMPLE THESIS STATEMENTS
CCOT: Analyze the changes and continuities in commerce in
the Indian Ocean region from 600ce-1750.
Thesis: A continuity in Indian Ocean trade from 650ce to 1750ce
was significant exchange of imports and exports, especially due to
valuable resources in India and China. A significant change was the
increased involvement of Europeans, who hoped to use colonies for
raw materials and markets for goods.
C/C: Compare the emergence of nation-states in nineteenthcentury Latin America with the emergence of nation-states in
ONE of the following regions in the twentieth century.
Sub-Saharan Africa
The Middle East
Thesis: Independence movements in Latin America and Sub-Sahara
Africa shared the same goal of wanting to eliminate European control,
and similar results, in ongoing issues of dictatorship and poverty.
However, they differed in results because the Latin American
revolutions occurred 150 years earlier, so the countries have had
more time to evolve, and because Sub-Sahara Africa has had more
problems with race.
