April 2, 2012 WCS PROM 2012 DRESS CODE ADJUSTMENTS Note: This is a formal occasion, and formal attire is expected. Dear Juniors and Seniors, The 2012 Woods Charter School Prom is quickly approaching. In anticipation of this exciting event, we would like to take a moment to clarify a few important details. Date: Cost: Time: Location: Saturday, April 14, 2012 $25.00 per ticket 8:00 pm - 12:00 pm Briar Chapel Clubhouse The location for the prom comes with certain guidelines that must be followed, including specific noise and boundary issues. This will be covered in the informational meeting prior to prom, but it is vital that all participants respect these concerns regardless of your attendance at the meeting. We ask for your assistance in exhibiting proper behavior before, during, and after this event. Woods Charter School students will be held accountable for any inappropriate actions, as well as the actions of their non-WCS dates. While the dress code will be relaxed slightly for the evening, the Prom is a school event and all other school rules apply. This includes the alcohol, tobacco, and other illicit drugs policies as stated in the WCS Handbook. If a student gives an indication of impairment, access may be denied. In the event that a student needs to be dismissed from Prom for any reason, no money will be refunded. Please note that when the Prom ends at 12:00 pm, all of Woods' responsibility ends. You need to discuss appropriate plans with your parents/guardians hereafter. Also, remember that students who leave the Prom (at any time, for any reason) will not be allowed to return. Attached you will find valuable information regarding the dress code. Please read through it carefully and discuss all rules and regulations with your dates. ALL FORMS MUST BE SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT & RETURNED WHEN PURCHASING A TICKET AT LUNCH, OR TO YOUR ADVISOR WITH PAYMENT. Ladies: Dress / Skirt & Blouse / Dress Slacks & Blouse Gentlemen: Tuxedo / Suit, Collared Shirt & Tie / Slacks, Collared Shirt & Tie In addition to the current Woods Charter School Dress Code (attached), adjustments and clarifications have been determined as follows: Dresses/skirts must extend at least to the tip of the fingers, this includes any splits. No shorts, jeans, or t-shirts are permitted. Clothing that exposes bare midriffs and/or cleavage is unacceptable. This includes see-through material. Strapless tops for the ladies are permitted. Sneakers, flip-flops and baseball caps are prohibited. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your possible attire, please get clarifications from Ms. Morrison prior to the start of Prom. Any dress code violations will need to be fixed upon arrival at the Prom or access may be denied. WCS Dress Code 2012 Woods Charter School strives to create an environment which allows our students to concentrate on academic and character education of the highest quality. While individuality is encouraged, the clothing and physical appearance of an individual must not disrupt or distract from the educational atmosphere of the school. Clothing and accessories should reflect the dignity and seriousness of our educational environment. Woods Charter School has determined that within the context of our K-12 school, the following clothing is non-compliant: Clothing that exposes bare midriffs or that contains sheer, skin-tone, or see-through materials (including fishnet); Clothing that exposes underwear; Halter tops, strapless tops, and spaghetti straps; Extremely tight, revealing, and/or low-cut clothing Loose-fitting, revealing, and/or baggy clothing Sunglasses, hats, and hoods inside the school building. (This prohibition shall not apply to any individual student when the article is necessary for medical or religious reasons.) Articles that include language or images which are profane, sexually suggestive, drug- or tobacco-oriented, and/or suggest or support violence Articles that demean any race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, physical disability, or intellectual ability Woods Charter School has determined that within the context of our K-12 school, the following clothing is in compliance: Tank top straps which are three fingers wide (the wearer’s fingers) at the top of the shoulder Shorts, skirts and dresses which are mid-thigh length or longer Sunglasses & hats outside the school building Athletic shoes are required for physical education classes and may be either worn to school or worn only for P.E. class. For purposes of this section, the Elementary Walking Program shall be considered a P.E. class. In some cases, the dress code for PE classes and afterschool sports may not comply with the standards above at the discretion of PE teachers and coaches. Other than the Dress Code Adjustments (attached), all other school rules apply. Woods Charter School students will be held accountable for any inappropriate actions, as well as the actions of their non-WCS dates. Please note that the Prom ends promptly at 12:00 pm, and we ask that you discuss appropriate plans with your son or daughter hereafter. Also, remember that students who leave the Prom at any time throughout the evening will not be allowed to return. If your child would like to attend the prom, please read through the attached forms carefully, fill in, sign and return with payment. If paying by check, please make checks payable to Woods Charter School with prom in the memo line. The forms are due to advisers (or can be purchased at lunch) as soon as possible. Please note that ALL guest forms MUST be submitted by Wednesday April 12. All Prom tickets MUST be purchased in advance, there will be no at-the-door option, and tickets will be on sale from 4/2 through 4/13 at 3 pm. Thank you for your continued support of our students.
