Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed tern contract postdoctoral scientist
with a proven track record within the Discipline of Pathology, College of Medicine, Nursing and Health
Sciences at National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by the Breast Cancer
campaign grant until 31/10/2014.
Job Description:
The purpose of the study is to investigate the role of miR17-92 cluster in breast cancer. The successful
candidate will work closely with the research team, focusing on the Regulation of NCOA3 expression by
UPR and its role in endocrine therapy.
Essential skills:
 Candidate must be highly motivated and possess a PhD in cell and molecular biology
 miRNA expression and function analysis, reporter gene assays
 Experience of mammalian cell culture, Cell death and apoptosis assays
 Experience of research in cancer biology
Desirable skills:
 miRNA insitu in FFPE sections
 IHC in FFPE sections
 Ability to work in a team
Duties:
 Planning and performing the experiments for the project
 Assistance with training of postgraduate students
 Regulation of NCOA3 by miR-17-92 during glucose & oxygen deprivation
 Role of NCOA3 and miR-17-92 in endocrine resistance
 Communication of project progress to peers and colleagues through report generation, oral
presentation and publication of research data.

Salary: €38,286 per annum (public sector pay policy pertaining to new entrants will apply)
