8. SPECIFIC YEAR LEVEL OBJECTIVES AND REQUIREMENTS
FIRST YEAR LEVEL:
A first year resident, at the end of his/her freshman year, is expected to be
familiar with the basic principles in Diagnostic Radiology, including radiographic
anatomy, positioning, physics and standard operating procedures of the
different radiological studies being done in our Institution. He/she should be
able to begin to recognize the normal and abnormal findings as well as the
variants demonstrated on plain radiographs or contrast radiologic examination.
He/she should have a basic knowledge of the pathophysiology of the common
diseases seen radiographically and be able to correlate the radiologic findings
with the different stages of the disease process.
SECOND YEAR LEVEL:
A second year resident at the end of his/her the sophomore year training is
expected to master the basic and advance principles in Diagnostic Radiology
which include updates on different radiological studies being done in our
institution. He/she should be able to distinguish straightforwardly the normal
and abnormal findings as well as the variants seen on plain radiographs or
contrast radiologic examination. He/she should have a full grasp of the
pathophysiology of the common diseases seen radiographically and be able to
correlate the radiologic findings with the different stages of the disease
process. He will be acquainted with other multi imaging modalities such as
ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging with
initial knowledge of physics, and different protocols of the respective imaging
modality studies.
THIRD YEAR LEVEL:
A third year resident at the end of his/her junior year is expected to master the
basic and advance principles in Diagnostic Radiology, Ultrasonography,
Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance and Interventional Radiology
which include updates on different radiological studies being done in our
institution. He/she should be able to fairly correlate radiologic imaging features
of certain diseases that can be demonstrated in different multi imaging
modalities He/she should have mastered with in-depth comprehension of the
pathophysiology of the different diseases seen radiographically with good
correlation of the radiologic findings with certain stage of the disease process.
He will be on the verge of mastery level to all multi imaging modalities in
Radiology with good understanding of tailored protocols that would fit in to the
case of a particular patient of the respective imaging modality studies.

FOURTH YEAR LEVEL:
A fourth year resident at the end of his/her senior year is expected to master
Basic Radiology with good understanding and inter-correlation capability of
different imaging modalities. He/she should be fully knowledgeable of different
radiologic imaging features of certain diseases that can be encountered in
everyday practice in Radiology. He/she should have a full understanding with
in-depth comprehension of the pathophysiology of various radiological cases
pertaining disease process in different stages. He will be on the mastery level
on how to come out a choice of tailored protocol suitable to the case of the
patient for a better pickup of imaging sensitivity, specificity and accuracy.

Availability and Diversity of Patient Population
The Department of Radiological Sciences caters to both in- and
out-patients of both pay and clinical divisions providing services in
diagnostic radiology, mammography ,ultrasound, CT-MRI and
interventional & vascular radiology.
Trainees have hands-on
experience with regards to preparation and planning of patients prior
to the procedure, interpretation and view-box sessions with
consultants and post-procedural care in all rotated sections, namely:
Vascular & Interventional Radiology, CT-MRI and ultrasound. The
diversity of patients being encountered everyday encompasses all
the subspecialties radiology offers thus making this the ideal venue
for learning and training.


Library Facilities
The Department of Radiological Sciences is equipped with a
variety of radiology books in the UST Radiology-AGFA Library and
Learning Resource Center at the 2nd Floor of the MRI section, as well
as Internet Access and Work stations to meet the demands of the
training residents.
Acquisition of a desktop computer was also done for use of
residents for their researches and storage of their digital files.

Call Rooms
Situated in the Section of Diagnostic Radiology, the call room was
strategically placed so that access to all the imaging modalities in the
hospital in emergency cases can be made during 24-hour tour of
duty. It is an allotted area where on duty residents may have an area
to sleep in and do their basic necessities.
