the many renowned scholars to speak at Hope’s Distinguished Lecture Series.
At Hope, Leaders of Yesterday and Today Share with the Leaders
of Tomorrow
Before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
had graduated college, Loyal Gould
was at the forefront of news media.
For decades Dr. Gould was an NBC
national correspondent and an AP
reporter covering many of the
biggest stories of the 20th century.
During his recent talk at Hope, Gould
shared specifically about his
experience walking alongside Dr.
King. It was a great opportunity for
students to hear from a man who
was right in the middle of so many

significant events in such a formative
time of American history. The first
scholar to address students and
faculty in the Distinguished Lecture
Series was Eric Metaxas. A NY Times
Bestselling author and media
correspondent, Metaxas is a
prominent figure in today’s media.
These two men are prominent living
representations of leadership from

during their talks they were addressing the future leaders of
a diverse set of fields in the Hope students before them. The
curriculum at Hope is designed to create well-rounded
confident adults with servant hearts. Throughout their
academic, spiritual, and athletic endeavors we encourage our
students to be leaders. This is a goal that is attained from
daily perseverance. A lesson our students will continue to
imbibe from the scholars that share their wisdom in our
Distinguished Lecture Series.
The Hope Rugby team returns in full force for the 2011 campaign.

MEMORY VERSE
OF THE
MONTH:
Proverbs 16:18
"Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to
rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can
understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains
right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you
knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not
surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house
about in a way that hurts abominably and does not
seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to?
The explanation is that He is building quite a different
house from the one you thought of - throwing out a
new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running
up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were
being made into a decent little cottage: but He is
building a palace. He intends to come and live in it
Himself."
— C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity)
