Junior Regional Orchestra auditions are Saturday, October 3, 2015

Eligible Students: 7th, 8th, and 9th grade orchestra students are eligible to audition if they are
enrolled in their school and are regular performing members of their school
orchestra program. 9th grade students must decide if they want to audition
for Senior or Junior Regional Orchestra but they may NOT audition for
both.
Registration:
On-line registration starts September 18, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Check your
school’s class orchestra page or www.NCVRO.org for the registration
link.
On-line registration ends at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015.
Audition Cost:
$5.25 per student. No checks accepted. Only exact cash or money order.
Students are to bring the completed STUDENT COMMITMENT FORM to the audition.
Audition consists of the following:
Scales:
A-Major and e- harmonic minor, two octaves
Scales are to be bowed separately with the top note repeated upon descending.
Scales should be performed at a tempo of the quarter note equal to 96 beats per
minute.
Prepared Piece: “Fantasy on Amazing Grace,” Kerr
Sight-Reading Exercise
Additional Information
 Selection is based on the student audition scores.
 Instrumentation for the Orchestra is as follows: 44 violins, 16 violas, 14 cellos, 8 basses
 Auditions are tabulated by the assigned adjudicators.
 Results of the audition will be available from the student’s teacher on the following Monday.
 The event will take place on November 13 & 14 at John Champe High School in Aldie, VA.
 Students who successfully audition will receive a copy of the Regional Music from their
teacher.
IMPORTANT: In order for you to participate, your director must be present at the auditions
and, if you are selected, at the rehearsals and concert. The student registration form has a
statement on it that states: “If a director cannot be present, a duly appointed representative must
accompany student with an appointing letter signed by the director and school principal. I
UNDERSTAND THAT IF MY DIRECTOR/APPOINTED DIRECTOR IS NOT PRESENT AT
THE AUDITION SITE AND AN APPOINTING LETTER HAS NOT BEEN SUBMITTED BY
THE DIRECTOR, I WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO AUDITION.”
