tranquil learning environment.
Course Overview
This practical hands-on course is an introduction for beginners and will also
welcome improvers who might appreciate the opportunity to expand their
knowledge and develop their technique and creative ideas within a small group,
under the supervision of an experienced tutor. Materials and methods will be
introduced and skills taught to enable students to take home at least one finished
piece of work.
Course Description
By the end of the weekend you should be able to:
 Select a simple design and make a stained glass panel
 Be fully conversant with health and safety procedures whilst working with
glass
 Cut glass in a confident manner and use a grinder to remove sharp edges
 Use copper foil and do some basic decorative soldering
 Finish your own unique piece of work

Sharon McMullin studied Architectural Stained Glass in Swansea and has over 20
years experience working in glass studios throughout the UK. She has worked on
commissions for secular and ecclesiastical buildings in the Middle East, USA and
UK, and has had her glass exhibited in Wales, London and Suffolk. Sharon has
been teaching stained glass for several years and also works from her studio in
Suffolk, producing work to commission and doing repairs. Visit her website:

What to Bring
Tools and equipment (eg soldering irons, hammers and lead-cutting knives) are
provided at the Centre and a large selection of glass is provided to be bought from
the tutor as required. You should be prepared for expenditure of around £20-£30
for the glass, depending on the size of the panel.
Please bring with you:
 An apron
 Paper, pencil, thin black pen and rubber
 Set square for drawing squares
 Dustpan and brush

Afternoon tea on Friday is available from 1600, but the first formal activity is
dinner at 1900 (with the bar open from 1845!).
Residents: Please aim to arrive between 1600 and 1800 to allow us sufficient
time to show you to your accommodation and around the communal
areas.
Non-residents:
You do not need to arrive quite so early but please can you be
here by 1800 as we need to show you the communal areas as well.
The course ends at 1600 on Sunday.
What is included in the fee
Residential course fee includes:
 Full board accommodation including cooked breakfast, picnic lunch,
homemade cakes and an evening meal. Vegetarian and other dietary option
available.
 Up to 8 hours teaching time a day, plus relaxing breaks for meals and
refreshments.
 Tea and coffee making facilities available throughout the day.
 Use of resources including library, workrooms, studios and the Centre
grounds.
 Transport during the courses.
 Insurance to cover cancellation, personal belongings, personal accident,
legal liability and medical emergency.

Start and finish times
If you choose to be a non-resident on a residential course, the fee will include all
the above except accommodation and breakfast.
