We know that many Reach-certified Strategists want to be published authors
but are not ready to write an entire book and do everything required to get it
published. We also teach in the certification program the importance of
developing passive revenue streams. So, we decided to create an opportunity
for those interested in being published authors making money while they
sleep!
If you’re interested, read on…
Reach had previously asked for input to this opportunity – and there
was some confusion about the project and how it will work – so we
have revised this to provide greater clarity:
Reach will publish a series of books combining the Reach methodology with
personal branding expertise focused on various specific target audiences
provided by a select group of Reach-certified Strategists. William has already
written most of the general personal branding content for the series. A Reachcertified Strategist will provide audience specific content (stories, case studies,
exercises, etc.) and refinements to William’s content to make it 100% relevant
to a specific, focused target audience.
Our goal is to produce up to ten of these books. Initially, we are considering
audiences such as realtors (brokers, real estate agents, mortgage brokers),
financial advisors, women and college students. We are open to different/other
markets. Our goal is to identify large, focused markets of people who can
benefit from the power of personal branding. We are only interested in
books focused on a specific target audience and will work with ONLY
ONE Reach-certified Strategist per target audience (sorry, no
exceptions). Here’s how it works.
Reach will:
Develop:
o Establish our own publishing imprint
o Identify and write approximately 75% of the manuscript
o Manage the overall development and execution
o Assemble and copy-edit the manuscript

Design the manuscript
Proofread
Design the book cover and other graphic images
Layout the book
Create the index
Publish:
o Purchase ISBN numbers
o Print the book and manage the inventory
o Publish the book in paperback format
o Make the book available in e-reader format
o Get it distributed (amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, bookstores, etc.)
o Make it available to you for 50% off the cover price (unlimited copies)
Market and Promote:
o Promote it to the entire Reach list
o Tweet and promote it through PB TV, thepersonalbrandingbblog.com,
YOUnique and other Reach properties
o Build a target-audience specific marketing plan (with Strategist)
o Provide marketing copy and materials you can use to market and sell
the book
o Market it via www.personalbrandingbooks.com. This site will feature this
series of books alongside Career Distinction and Shift. Dare. Do!
(working title for William and Deb Dib’s book – due out in Q1 2012).
Pay:
o Track all sales
o Pay commission fees to authors for each book sold (this is the passive
revenue part!)
Your Commitment:
 Be a credible, knowledgeable expert in the target audience for the book
 Have compelling clients and people you can use in writing case studies
and stories. You should have at last 7-8 compelling people to feature.
 Be excellent at writing (we will have a copy editor, but want to ensure
we are providing quality content)
 Write approximately 20-25% of the total content, including stories,
case studies, exercises and audience-specific content and refine other
content for your target audience as required
 Help with obtaining book testimonials and the author of the Foreword
(target audience specific)

Get permission from those included in your stories, case studies, etc.
Agree to promote the book to your target audience. You must have a
large number of people in this target audience in your list.
Comply with deadlines and other contract details
Agree to autograph a subset of books – for special sales and promotions
What you get:

 The credibility of being a published author
 Your bio, headshot and contact details in the back of the book (and in all

 A royalty payment on every book sold regardless of how the sale was
made – whether sold by you, Reach or purchased through amazon.com,
etc. (this does not apply to second-hand book sales).

To participate in this opportunity, you must be a Certified Reach Personal
Brand Strategist in good standing (signed Ts and Cs, etc.) at the time of
application and you need to have used the Reach Personal Branding
Methodology with the clients who you’ll be featuring as case studies. Priority
will be given to those who have advanced certifications with Reach. You need
to be a self-starter who can work independently and who will meet deadlines.
We have critical writing and publication milestones we need to meet so we are
unable to accommodate situations which are not within these set timeframes.
Your Investment:
$997 when you sign on and another $997 when the book drops. Although this
will cover only a fraction of the development and publication cost, it will help
defray that investment. There will be no additional costs to you. Commission
checks will be paid to you at least every six months (depending on the volume
of sales). Preferred Strategists receive a 10% discount as part of their
Preferred benefits.
This is a great opportunity to become a published author and develop a
passive revenue stream. You benefit from a huge amount of promotion from
Reach - making it more likely that this book will become a targeted bestseller.

FAQs
Why is this being published by Reach and not a major publisher?
These books will have a very targeted audience – which can be lucrative but it
less interesting to major publishers. Also, book publishing takes forever (up to
two years) with a traditional publisher and we want to get these out there
soon. We also want to make this a passive revenue source and you don’t make
money from publishing with big publishing houses. Reach has the list,
resources and knowledge to get this done without going to a major publisher.
Why is Reach doing all this work instead of working with a selfpublishing company?
We are not happy with the quality of books produced by many of the selfpublishing companies that are out there. We have even seen one where the
publisher’s own address had a typo! It’s a lot more work but we want to have
control and deliver a quality product.
Why is there an up-front fee to participate?
Reach will invest most of the up-front fees to get the book published. We want
our partner to show a commitment to the project and to be invested in it. The
fee will not even cover 25% of the cost of publishing, but will help off-set
those costs. If you are not willing to invest, this is probably not the opportunity
for you.
Why is this a physical book project and not an e-book project?
Although everything is moving to softcopy, there remains a huge amount of
credibility in having a published physical book. E-books do not have the same
gravitas. There will be e-reader versions of the book for those who prefer
softcopy.
How will you decide on the target audiences and which strategist gets
to participate?
Target audiences will be based on how easy it is to reach them (the goal is to
sell a lot of books) and the importance of personal branding to them. We will
work with the Strategist that is the most known to that target and is the most

committed to the project and has the best writing skills. Strategists with
advanced certifications will be given priority.
Why are you working with just one Strategist per book?
Having your name on the cover is quite different from contributing to the
content. We think this is what Strategists are looking for. We are looking for
one person who is committed to the topic and target audience for each book.
We think this will have a bigger impact on the market.
When will the books drop?
Currently, William’s priority is launching his book with Deb Dib (currently titled
Shift. Dare. Do.). This project will follow that book launch. We would like to
have most of the work on the manuscripts completed this year so we can
begin releasing them early in 2012. Release of the various books will be
staggered to ensure maximum support and focused marketing plan execution
for each. The order of the books will be determined and published to all
authors in advance once we have greater clarity about the various target
audiences.
