Help Wanted: Great Work, No Pay, High Satisfaction!
Shaker Heritage Society is recruiting new Board Members. Our 38 year-old not-for-profit agency is
working to preserve the nationally significant site of America’s first Shaker settlement while also
providing a wide variety of education programs and public events.
This is an opportunity to help preserve a significant historic site that also is a wonderful rural oasis
adjacent to Albany International Airport. In this small organization, every Board Member can have
an impact. We are seeking new Directors who can provide financial, historic preservation, and
fundraising expertise. We also are recruiting a new Vice President.
Some of the Society’s current projects include:
• Implementation of an award winning Site Master Plan that calls for the preservation of nine
nationally significant historic buildings and the surrounding landscape.
• Stabilization of the 1915 Shaker Barn Complex
• New partnerships with the New York State Museum, Siena College, Hancock Shaker Village and
the Shaker Museum at Mt. Lebanon to develop teacher workshops and a blockbuster Shaker
exhibition that opens at the NYS Museum in November 2015.
• We are one of eleven cultural organizations known as the Partners for Albany Stories who are
working together to promote heritage tourism in Albany.
• Annual Craft Fairs that help sustain over 100 local small craft businesses.
