Achievements during the
Year Nominated
Paul has made very significant contributions to squash in the NT not
only as a President of Squash NT during 2011 and 2012 but also in
initiating and leading the project management of the brand new Darwin
(If this space is insufficient to Squash Centre facility over the past 18 months and setting up a new

Paul has worked closely with all stakeholders to help design and
construct a quality squash centre with 12 courts including several
Doubles courts. This facility is the envy of many interstate squash
authorities as few squash centres are being built, rather, many centres
are being changed into gyms, fitness centres and used for other
purposes that are more economically viable. Paul has worked tirelessly
with the builders and construction workers to ensure the project goals
were achieved throughout the construction phase. He has also
coordinated the opening of the facility and led the employment and
selection of the new staff to manage the centre.
In 2011 Paul negotiated with KPMG to conduct a thorough analysis
and review of the sport and ensured that a range of stakeholders in all
regions across the NT were consulted in an extensive consultation
process. He led the implementation of many key recommendations
from the KPMG Review including the development of a new
constitution, new policies in line with Squash Australia’s policies and
new communication strategies so that all players are kept informed of
the development and improvement of squash in the NT. He led the
development of a SNT web page and Facebook sites and a new Player
Pathway to ensure activities and programs are to be developed to cater
for all types of squash players including social, competition players,
elite athletes, Masters and beginning young players. He has organized
new programs and negotiated with Squash Australia to deliver Oz
Squash for beginning juniors to build the numbers in the sport.
Paul in conjunction with the SNT Board set up a new Annual
Operational Plan and budget to ensure greater financial accountability
and transparency for the members of SNT. These plans have provided
guidance and direction to the Board over the past 12 months. He
successfully negotiated the triennial agreement with the Department of
Sport and Recreation recently. Paul was able to secure more funding
than previously acquired to ensure a better income stream for SNT and
enable coaching and refereeing clinics to occur more often in the
regions.
In 2011 Paul drafted new role descriptions for the office bearers of the
Board and organized a weekend workshop for all Regional delegates to
draft new policies and procedures for the operation of the organization
and to improve accountability measures. He also had the logo redesigned for SNT and new NT player uniforms and official/staff wear
produced to give a new fresh image to squash.

In this first year of the Squash NT Annual Awards it would be a fitting
tribute to Paul for him to be named the inaugural winner of the
Administrator of the Year Award and would set a high standard for
future winners of the award.

worked closely with Squash Australia to continue to deliver national
programs and help support the ongoing development of top class
athletes of the sport for years to come.
Paul has the respect and admiration of his playing colleagues, SNT
Board members and the members from a number of regions and squash
centres across the NT. It is without doubt much of what has been
achieved for both the Darwin squash players and regional members
with the construction of the new facility and its opening along with the
framework for an exciting new operation, is in a large part due to
Paul’s innovative thinking, problem solving ability, his interpersonal
skills to try to bring a range of stakeholders together and his dedicated
hard work that have kept the NT punching well above its weight on the
national scene.
It is without doubt that squash in the Northern Territory would not have
gained the magnificent new squash centre without the efforts of Paul
throughout his leadership of SNT as the president and proactive
negotiator with all stakeholders engaged in the project. He has
demonstrated great strategic leadership throughout the 2012/2013 year
as a valued member of the squash community across the NT.
