Purdue’s pre-service FACS methods students will share
weekly plans using the Aug. 2014 academic standards.
They’ll share activities, apps, games and projects based
on “FCS-MS 2: MIDDLE SCHOOL FINANCIAL LITERACY:
Students will apply management practices to personal,
family, and financial resources.”
Presenting a hands-on way to review safety and
sanitation practices: Students become the culinary
“crime” scene investigators, discovering what is wrong in
the kitchen.
The incorporation of literacy standards into middle school
food preparation standards
Incorporate the literacy standards easily with this student
project. Each student is assigned a food borne illness to
research on the CDC’s Bad Bug Book and then create a
short story about the illness.
Discussions—retirees opportunities to serve and mentor
young professions.. Expectations of continued AAFCS
membership
Improve student interest with a learning space the sparks
creativity. Get ideas and find out how students feel about

Empower students to target relevant issues in their
community. Learn how Owen Valley promotes
authentic youth engagement using the IPARD/C
model. Successful projects related to teen safe
driving, anti-bully campaign, and other youth
passions will be shared.

great to use to introduce materials as
a pretest or even as a review for an exam.
Interactive online program from Purdue Extension gives
participants a resource to not only learn more about
planning finances, but also a place to develop those plans.

Crafts
Interested in hearing how you can bring the farm to your
school? This farm to school roundtable will offer tips on
how to grow school gardens and how to safely handle the
produce after harvest. Come with your questions and
leave with helpful resources!
What do presently enrolled students, a community
outreach and marketing the FACS department all have in
common? Why BRING A FRIEND TO FACS of course.
Attend this session to learn how our department has
established a tradition of giving back to our community
while promoting the FACS course offerings.
Learn how you can work with your local Purdue Extension
office to enhance your curriculum and utilize Purdue
Extension educators in your classroom. Ways to develop
a partnership with Purdue Extension will also be shared.
A two day lesson plan to introduce the topic of providing
for a preschoolers nutrition needs utilizing Smartboard
and an interactive snack lab.
This round table will focus on how to use various Google
Tools such as Docs, Sheets and Presentations to make life
easier for you and your students. Google Classroom will
be demonstrated if you are interested. Bring your own
device if you want to follow along.
I will share several small sewing projects that any
beginning sewing students would love to sew to create
something worthwhile, creative and fun while also
learning basic sewing skills. I will demonstrate step by
step directions for the cell phone charger caddy (pattern
included in the book) and share the grading rubrics for
these projects. Middle School Standards covered include:
Caring for Resources and Reading Manuals, Technology
Integration throughout FACS and Decision Making,
Problem Solving and Critical thinking.
Students work with elderly to see conditions (physical,
emotional, and financial). “What would you want; or want
to avoid?” Includes community/service learning, family
relations, housing, food/nutrition, aesthetics and
encourages respect.
Purdue’s Family and Consumer Sciences Education
program offers outstanding opportunities for
undergraduate teacher education and post-baccalaureate
/ Transition to Teaching licensure. Stop by to chat with us
