Denver Health TEE Checklist
Pre-procedure checklist:
 Chart review for appropriateness and risk assessment
 Perform pre-procedure evaluation
o Airway
o Esophageal pathology
o Respiratory status
o Mental status
 Consent
 Verify NPO status
 Coordinate with
o Staffing cardiologist
o Echo lab personnel
o Sedation (usually cath lab nurses)
 Confirm disposition
o Same Day admission for outpatients
o Ride home for outpatients or overnight admission
o No cab vouchers
Post-procedure checklist




Written preliminary report (into chart before patient leaves room for inpts)
Explain post-procedure care and prelim results to patient
Facilitate/coordinate follow-up care where necessary
Call referring physician with result.
