 Recognize solid state physics and more broadly the physics of materials.
 Help students become better and more organized problem solvers using solid state physics as
a tool to that end.
 Help students to become better abstract and critical thinkers, using solid state physics as a
tool to that end.

On completing the course the students will be able to:
 Define a solid state physics.
 Interpret the structure that makes a solid?
 Differentiate between metals, semiconductor and insulators.
 Differentiate between the types of crystal lattice using X-ray diffraction.
 Summarize the physics of electrical and thermal conductivity and the relation between them.
 Explain the meaning of phonon.
 analyse the mathematical formulation describing this physical phenomena
