L.B. Bohle to Host One-Day Seminar on Tablet Coating at U.S. Service Center
June 7 event to be held in suburban Philadelphia
WARMINSTER, Pa. (April XX, 2012) —L.B. Bohle will host a day of tablet coating
seminars and demos on June 7 at its U.S. service center in Warminster, Pa. near
Philadelphia. The event, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is open to executives,
processing engineers, research and development managers, and other decision makers in
the pharmaceutical industry.
Experts from industry-leading organizations will be on hand to present the latest
information on tablet coating and pharmaceutical processing, including:

Customer Needs-Driven Coating Evolution (Laura Scattergood, Film Coating
Manager of North America, Colorcon) — Innovation in the film coating industry
comes from customers voicing their needs for better productivity and
functionality. Ms. Scattergood will focus on the evolution from cellulose to vinylbased polymers in film coating formulations and show how experimental design
can be used to identify optimal coating parameters for a highly productive
moisture barrier coating on tablets.

Tablet Coating Hazardous Risk Management (Sam Halaby, Director of
Process Technology, IPS) — Today’s tablet coating processes present several
hazards, including flammable liquids, combustible dusts, and handling of highly
potent compounds. It’s important to understand these hazards so that they can be
identified and managed. Mr. Halaby will discuss potential dangers with solution
preparation and tablet coating, and identify strategies on risk mitigation.

Process Considerations for Continuous Coating (Chris DeSantos, Process
Engineer, Janssen Supply Group, part of Johnson & Johnson) — Continuous
coating will likely be part of any continuous pharmaceutical tablet manufacturing
line in the near future. Both fully and semi-continuous coating systems are
commercially available, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Mr.
DeSantos will cover the design aspects of these coating systems, as well as give
guidance on the important performance characteristics useful in the comparison of
different options such as coating capacity for semi-continuous and residence time
distribution for fully continuous.

Achieving the Best Uniformity in Functional Film Coating (Elle Nolte,
Process Engineer, L.B. Bohle) — Functional film coating is one of the rising stars
in pharmaceuticals. To achieve high-efficiency processing and high-quality
product in active and membrane coating, new methods and process designs must
be explored. Mr. Nolte discusses standard coating technologies versus the design
and process features for the new generation of coating machines.
In addition to presentations, L.B. Bohle engineers will provide demos with the Bohle
Tablet Coater and Colorcon coating solutions in the service center.
