Project Lead the Way
Registration Instructions
Earning University of Minnesota credit for Project Lead the Way courses:
Secondary school students successfully completing Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses may apply for
transcripted college credit from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cites (U of M). The student will
receive 3 semester credits per course, subject to the following conditions:






The school must be certified by PLTW
All requirements for the PLTW course must be satisfied, and the student must achieve an average
of 85% or better for the course
The college credit exam must be taken and passed with a grade of at least 70%
The required fee must be paid. Fee is currently $100 for Minnesota residents, and $300 for nonMinnesota residents, for a 3-credit course
Grade of S (Pass) appears on the U of M transcript
Correct payment amount and completed application must be post marked by the deadline (see
below). Any application post marked after the deadline will not be processed and will be
returned.
The U of M will accept transcripted credit for PLTW courses from other affiliate universities. Up to 6
such credits may be used as general electives towards a degree at the U of M. Possible substitution of
PLTW credits for meeting specific programmatic requirements at the University is at the discretion of the
individual programs. Currently, at the U of M, PLTW courses do not have specific program equivalents.
The PLTW courses for which U of M credit may be received are the following:





Introduction to Engineering Design (CSE 1511)
Principles of Engineering (CSE 1512)
Digital Electronics (CSE 1513)
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CSE 1514)
Overview of Civil Engineering and Architecture (CSE 1515)
How to register for U of M credit for PLTW courses:
1. Download the Registration Form from http://www.cse.umn.edu/pltw/
2. Have student complete the “STUDENT INFORMATION” section of the form and give to
PLTW teacher along with payment * of $100 per course for Minnesota residents, and $300 for
non-Minnesota residents.
3. Have PLTW teacher complete the “INSTRUCTOR/COURSE INFORMATION” section of the
form and mail it with payment check to:

4. Registration Deadlines:



For courses taken in the fall, registration forms must be postmarked no later than May 1
of the same academic year.
For courses taken in the spring, registration forms must be postmarked no later than
September 1 of that year. These deadlines are firm and not negotiable.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:
To earn three University of Minnesota (U of M) credits for a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course, students must
complete the “STUDENT INFORMATION” section of this form and submit it to their PLTW high school
instructor for approval. Payment of $100 for Minnesota residents and $300 for non-Minnesota residents, as check or
Money Order payable to the University of Minnesota, must be submitted along with this form. Registrations will not
be processed without payment. A separate registration form and payment is required for each PLTW course.
Students will be notified by US mail when PLTW credits are on their official U of M transcript. Students may
request an official U of M transcript online at: http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/grades.html.
 It can take up to 12 weeks for the credit to appear on a student’s transcript. Please plan accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: Required items on this form are marked with * and will be used for identification and to
establish or reference your U of M student record. The remaining items are voluntary and will be used for positive
identification, reporting and institutional research.
