Globalization is when countries depend on each other for new sources. By depending on each
other, they also work together; this definition needs to be from the official IB document on globalization
– you know it, and it must be the one you use. … however sometimes these countries that may need
help from another country don’t always work out so well, so sometimes misunderstandings can lead to
wars or terrorism. There are a majority of positives outcomes of globalization, but there are also
negative outcomes that can be life threatening to some countries.
There are many countries today, such as countries within Africa, who are in need of medicine
and education. By globalization, other people can see that there are people in need, because via video
cameras and TV, it’s possible for other people to get a proper look on what the effects of the poor
countries with lack of medicine and educations are. It gives people a chance to visually see what the
needs of other people are. There are other ways that TV and documentation can help the world
situation, like by documenting wild life or nature where catastrophes or disasters have struck. If natural
disasters hit a country, there is a bigger chance of getting help due to phones and internet, where
people can ask for help in many different ways. There are also now chances of online education and help
in different ways in order for poorer countries to get help.
Many countries has a low GDP/capita which means that people don’t get a high pay for their
jobs, so by globalization spreading, companies are expanding their resources out into countries that are
really in need of jobs, so by providing these jobs people can earn more money and perhaps get better
medical care whenever they are in need. This is also positive for consumers in other countries because
when companies expand and ‘race’ against one another to get more consumers to buy their products,
mass producing them in one country will provide jobs and selling the products in another will benefit
consumers because it will be cheaper for their economy.

Culture is another aspect of globalization. Because the big cultural difference within our world is so
widespread, via globalization we can show other people our differences and be OK with it. Even though
in many countries other cultures are unacceptable, it is still important that we can see differences from
other aspects because of globalization. International competitions also bring together different cultures
to each other, for a fun reason. International learning and education is another really important aspect
of globalization, because like the IB school it helps students whose parents travel around the world,
because they are capable of learning the same things in different countries, but it will still be the same.
International learning also makes students capable of learning about new cultures, which is important if
they will be travelling the world, so that they are prepared for differences in new countries.
Would say that there are however negative aspects to globalization. The sad part to
globalization is that there are also negative aspects to it, and these involve terrorism and wars. It means
false propaganda against other countries, and it means child labor. In many poor countries many
families will send off their children to work or send them into the army in order to protect their country
or to earn money for the family. This is unhealthy for the children, and only adds to the problems within
a country. The cultural differences between countries are also another negative aspect of globalization
because this can cause terrorism or war between countries. A good example of terror was the 9/11
attack that happened, because two cultures disagreed thousands of people died for no reason, and
because these two cultures were so closed minded death, to them, had to happen. War can also break
out and add to the problems countries might have. Other things that can come from war is propaganda,
which is spread more easily due to internet and TV. Because of globalization, many countries are taking
in other foods and food chain, i.e. mcdonald’s, which could cause health problems in some countries
because if a country is in need of a proper diet, and instead they get oily chips and greasy burgers
instead.
In conclusion, there are a majority of good reasons and aspect of globalization because many
countries are taking in good conclusions and aspects from other countries compared to how many
countries end up disagreeing. I foresee in the future that many more countries will use globalization as a
tool that can help them throughout their lifetime with many positive aspects and making new contacts. I
also believe that due to globalization, I think that it will be easier to help countries who are in need of
help with education and medicine.
Lots of very good points here Penny. You have tried to cover both negative and positive aspects. There
are examples but many are a bit too general and need specific instances.
You need to have look at the help document on moodle which gave many other positives and negatives.
This may have helped you focus on these more. However as a first essay at IB it is great and shows a lot
of potential.
